Looks like a good training exercise.
Chen Zhonghua has some exercises with elastics. One of the interesting aspects of training with elastics is that one can emphasize pulling with “the core” rather than just arms. One can readily feel the difference. In accordance with his training, it emphasizes going outward leading with the hand and pulling inward leading with the elbow. It uses less effort due to better ergonomics/leverage. One isnt compelled to need to do that in performing empty hand exercises.
