Nice video Byron, I like that there was a retreating beng shown as well (although not explicitly taught). Does yr group practice Yi Ma San Jian (一马三箭) or Ji San Chui (击三捶) as well?

Thanks! Yes, we do practice Yi Ma San Jian (一马三箭), and we have many variations of Beng. Some Yi Ma San Jian in here if I recall:

I was only able to cover those 2 basic versions within the ten minute video this time.

Very cool, nice to see the similarities across different lines. Obviously this vid was just to introduce basics, would love if you could do a follow-up on the variations - think once you see the variations you suddenly realise why Guo Yunshen could just use Beng Quan as his main attack

Could I ask what the words mean?

一马三箭 - is that the aobu bengquan, tuibu bengquan, shunbu bengquan combination?
击三捶 - is this perhaps 3 bengquan in one step? Or maybe just 3 aobu bengquans in a row?

Hi Ed, yes, Yi Ma San Jian is the shunbu + tuibu + aobu small Beng combo. In our group we use Ji San Chui interchangeably to refer to 1 Ma 3 Jian, but haven't heard anyone else use it that way. Btw, we do also have a separate continuous (lianxu) Beng hitting high-middle-low.

Ah cool - I didn't know these names before.

Is the lianxu beng with genbu step? Or just one step and 3 punches? (I think I learned this with the genbu)

Our Yi Ma San Jian is Ao Bu (ban bu) + Tui Bu + Shun Bu Combo
