How did I know it would end with the fist?

As soon as I saw "TKD vs. MT," I pretty much knew who would win...

TKD's effectiveness as a fighting art has been on the decline ever since it became an Olympic sport in 1988. Due to the competition rules, many practitioners have long abandoned hand strikes and grappling techniques that were once part of the art and focused on fast, light kicks that can help them score more points in sparring matches instead.

So.... is there a point to this video?

Don't think there was really a point as much as another challenge match.

For me though, I always find it fascinating when two kickers resort to boxing. I think kicks are great in a competitive setting with refs and space but in street fights where people get in each others' faces it doesn't seem to work so well when people fight "dirty."

I did old school TKD when I was a kid and it was much more like karate than modern TKD. In college I did TKD again and people were impressed because my kicks had a lot of fajin from my kungfu training and wanted me to join the club but I was an ass about it and I told them I didn't see the point. LOL! I wish I would have handled it better but at the time I was also doing BJJ and looking for the "real stuff."

Yes, TKD is a skill set like MT but unlike MT they don't seem to focus on their hands when they need them. I was surprised the MT guy didn't go for the clinch but I think he was just wait for that opening and wanted to end it quickly. Yes a kick to the head could have KOed MT guy but since he's also a kicker I think his eyes were trained for that.

Anyway for me martial arts is something I just enjoy and I don't understand why anyone engages in these challenges nymore it seems that most people accept that you need to do some cross training if you plan on fighting other styles or for SD.

Even back in highschool I heard of a TKD blackbelt getting beat up because on the streets there are no rules so the other girl (yes girls) just rushed her and slammed her as soon as the TKD fighter picked up her leg.
