The back hand like all things in mind form boxing is of utmost importance
If you don't think so you might be studying another art
Don't put power into the form let it naturally arise from the form

Not judging what other people, systems etc. do, but as far as I know, San-ti is primarily an expression of the preparation for “shu jin” (vertical force). The direction of the back hand’s center finger should converge with the body’s vertical centerline. The bottom hand is also key in creating the suspension evident in ba-bei (pulling up the back) or the Tiger Head (Hu Tou). The downward pressure of the thenar eminence should be adjusted in accordance to the degree of upward pressure through the “baihui” point or vertex of the head. The downward pressure directed through the thenar eminence is also the key to straightening the fingers all the way out to the jing points (fingertips) and creating a slight angular lift (plane ) although some prefer to relax the pinkie, ring and middle finger while keeping the Tigers mouth stretched open.
