Xing Yi lockdown videos

Postby GrahamB on Tue May 05, 2020 2:27 am

Bored on Lockdown, so I've started making some Xing Yi videos :)

I thought I'd do one for each animal that makes up San Ti Shi. Dragon, Chicken, Bear, Eagle and Tiger.

(The sound on the Dragon one is too quiet - sorry about that - fixed it for the rest).

Nobody to show apps on, but I punch myself a few times. And there are sword apps shown.

Aye - Xing Yi is always better with a weapon in your hand.

Nice , sharing some of your work...hope it inspires others to share some of theirs.

The Dragon movement interesting, have seen it done a a little differently
your method looks very functional.

do you combine this with your grappling work?

Thanks.

Snake for grappling for me. Snake is where it all fits together.

I wrote a chapter about BJJ/Xing Yi Snake crossover in this:

“Snake “

Will check out the link a little later.
Would you call this more of your own personal style or just an aspect that fits better with your grappling

No, I think it's the way it's meant to be done. If you watch the best ground guys, they move like a snake - I'm thinking of Demian Maia. Just watch his ground game vs Ben Askren (especially the ending) - it's like he becomes a snake :) :

I'm thinking of this sort of snake - a constrictor:

I can’t see the YouTube videos, but I see the pic of the santishi posture where the back arm is turned such as the elbow point out to the right and fingers point towards left.
It seem not to go with the same intent as the forward arm/hand ?
In what linage is this Santishi ?

I not criticizing anything, just curious.

I explain that in the videos :)

It's to create the Bear Shoulders and the Tiger Embrace.

Other styles do it differently for different reasons.

I'm various lineages, but all Hebei Xing Yi.
