I guess nobody likes actual fighting, just historical texts. :)

Seems like pretty standard staged/semi-staged fights. Also, the Capoeira fights were huge disappointments.

Abo has started a kickboxing competition with similar rules
Only 15 seconds on the ground
Not because he doesn't like reality just because he likes striking
You can tell him it's not reality I won't
Spent a little time with him when I was young
Believe me he knows the real thing

Most likely. I thought it was telling that the Capoeira "mestre" lost in the final fight by stepping out of the ring and then by having an "injury"-- so he lost the match, but he didn't lose in the sense that he got beat up. It's a way to make the other guy look good without giving up too much face. Capoeira is practiced in rodas that are much smaller than that giant fighting ring, with people and kids running around and new opponents jumping into the ring, etc. For a mestre to have that little ring awareness would be bizarre. I figure part of the price of him losing was that he got to bring one of his students who would win, so as to represent the art with at least one victory. I could be wrong, but that's how I saw it.

Incidently, Marcus Aurelio apparently has had at least a few pro MMA fights before this. The highlights are much better than the above offering:

Aside from the capoeira, the boxer didn't move like a boxer, the muy thai guy didn't move like other muy thai guys I've seen, etc. And the BJJ guy didn't pull guard even once, so you KNOW that's gotta be fake...

???

Okay, this is bizarre and awesome. Well, make that awesomely bizarre.

So, the promotion is named after the island where Musashi had his famous duel with Kojiro Sasaki? And the first fight was between a sumo guy and a yoga guy both who have "black belts in MMA?" And they are wearing street fighter outfits? And the anouncers keep calling the fighter named Date (da-te) Dāte?

That's all I have watched so far, but it looks like a fun venue, and if they would pay me to fight people of that level on a smoke surrounded ring, I would start running again and give it a go. This has the potential to be a lot of fun! Hope the other fights show a bit more.

Also, the hyper-Shinto setting is, again, bizarre and awesome.

Thanks for sharing, G.

Yeah, it's absolutely crazy. The rules are odd too. 15 seconds on the ground then stand up and if you get pushed out of the ring 3 times you loose.

I didn't think it was WWF-fake at all, however bhassler has made me wonder... Real King Date (best name by far!) absolutely mashes the Sumo guy's face (making me think it's NOT fake) but then lets himself be pushed out of the ring 3 times and loses? - maybe that bit is fake? Or maybe it's just very hard to stop a sumo guy pushing you out... I don't know. Crazy rules. ;D

Yeah, I would totally get my ass kicked for some cash for a chance to jump in that ring! I have a deadline coming up but hope to enjoy the rest of it after that. Thanks for sharing.

Three pushes out of the ring was a tang shou Tao rule
It's what cost me the championship in 1975
I was worried about striking but my opponent used that rule to great advantage
The standup rule is just like the clinch rule in boxing
Any combat sport has rules some I like some I don't
If you compete you have to play by the rules
If you don't go to a place where reality rules
