Hi Paul

How do you stop 'dead standing'

What are your training methods external and internal to stop it becoming dead standing.

Is it just the mind.? if not then what, 'how' would be really helpful to many of us that train.

Looks like your not getting an answer to that
Hear goes

Second correct form lead by a good teacher
Third right method my main set I teach is from the internal essence of the 8 style fist (Zhong he ba Shao guan )
system of I chuan
Forth gradual extension of time done over time
Fifth connect your movement(in stillness) to breath
Sixth let the standing lead you don't lead the standing

What linage is Mr.Rogers of, who is his teacher ?

My teacher in Beijing told me to keep some methods “under my hat” Until eventually if I would teach and would have an dedicated and talented student, that student will be advices the same then.
I understand other teachers in Beijing also advice this....

Now, I can’t open the link or see the video of the OP(if that’s what it is)but I would believe in it no “secrets” are reveled.

You are correct, no secrets. Couldn't find anything specifically that I associate with indoor practice either. I enjoyed some of the talk. Other things, like his about putting your mind into animals and try to feel like one, felt a bit strange for me. Those ideas are very much opposite from how I practice my stuff. So I guess, Yiquan is not for me. But I already knew it wasn't.

With any traditional school , you wil not know what is 'inner door' teaching unless you are - inside the door.

On this video some of what Paul explains is 'inner door' teaching in his school, it only makes sense and comes alive through oral transmission and touch.

To make standing alive, it is a process with many elements, a good place to start would be to find a teacher who feels alive at touch.

No, in YiQuan practice one does not mimic animals, however one visualize forces to act upon,

Paul is giving a recipe, so to speak - you still need to get in the kitchen, buy the ingredients, and get scolded a lot by the cook.

Another way of saying inner door is 'apprentice-ship' - a long process which is far from just mimicking what you see on youtube or read in a book.

As you no doubt know, the oral transmission and touch is everything in these arts, be it barehand , weapons or meditative cultivation.

Chin Woo it is the whole process of learning and practice which imbues standing with life.

A simple method to start with would be to Zhang Zhuang whilst maintaining the six directions forces, and the six harmonies.

There is enough there for a lifetime of work.

@chinwoo1956, maybe do some of yr own googling instead of expecting others to give you the answer on a plate?

The 6 directions of force Alex (lineofintent) mentioned has been written about in several introductions to Yiquan which are freely available online, for example:
