Guo Yunsheng Xingyi and Hong Yixiang

Postby Overlord on Thu Sep 24, 2020 7:54 am

For years, I was always perplexed why GM Hong Yixiang’s Xingyi is unique,
And there were some of former Hong’s students or outsiders accused Hong altered his Xingyi forms from Zhang.
For instance, Hong’s Xingyi Pi is very very unique.
This clip from Guo Yunsheng lineage proves a lot of things.
Hong must had learnt his Xingyi skills from unknown but authentic sources.

His legwork is lacking some. Could be that his intention in the clip is mainly to display the upper body work

Not familiar with Hong Yixiang's piquan or other alternate forms. Any examples of these? (I have done some Guo xingyi before, so could comment perhaps.)

I can see the clips - doesn't look like anything special to me. I think the point the OP is making is that this Chinese guy forward-weights his pi chuan?

Guo’s Xingyi is very unique in its own way.
This clip is only special for the few.
There are so many hidden moves and Gongfa within this clip.
I really would love to see their Beng.

I'd caution against assuming that the video posted by the 'OP' is *the* way Piquan is practiced in Guo Yunshen-derived branches. There are some pretty big variances in skill level and manner of performing 5 elements / 12 animals in the branches that claim to come from Guo, personally I don't see much Piquan gongfu in the OP vid.

For comparison, here are two other Guo-style Piquan variations (from Ma Fuji branch), personally think both of these show more of the 'power' of Piquan than the OP one:

Nick,
In Hebei branch, as far as I know there is a certain move in Pi that can show if one is in-door or out door.
It's bit like a trade mark.
Surely you know what it is right ?
So with the two clips you posted and that I posted, which one do you think has this trade mark?

Cheers

Piquan/Xingyiquan in all legitim linages has “so many hidden moves and gongfa”.
The involvement of Yi in the routines is of main importance, which may/(should) become lesser and lesser obvious visible performance wise over time.

The gentleman in the video show some very obvious upper body movement mechanics, while as I commented previously his leg work seem lacking some, not his stances but perhaps in his stepping. But then it can be so that he just want to show the camera holder the obvious of the upper body for now, keeping lower body “hiddenl. But to get to understand that is so one have to interact with him.

The youku member only display that video, i too would like to see the rest of the elements performed.
