4 seems kind of arbitrary. Why not make it 5, or 10?

In Chinese the number four is pronounced same as the word for death.....he should have kept going, now 4 will always be haunting him......Maybe he saw as four years put his old self to death

FWIW, I agree. It could be that anyone that serious about their training is the same type of person who would reach the level he did.

But who knows? May be it is the secret like Rickson Gracie not having sex before a challenge.

We are all human. We live at the MOMENT the same as other humans. Sex is kind of an intuitive behavior. Learning how to exchange, and nurture qi with sex would be more congruous. We can't say the air is polluted so we don't breath.

As long as we're being non-specific, some might say that the results are the thing to look at with regards to martial arts practice, not so much the story someone spins to *talk about* why he/she/it (or their art) is so special.

The guy in the clip was just changed to do the right things, and being humane. It is nothing to do with sex, martial arts,.....enlightening... What is the excitement on doing the right things? What is the big deal on doing the right things? Why make it such a big deal? There are problems there. The problem being not doing the righteous acts from the bottom of the heart.

None of the old Neidan or Daoyin classics have the idea of "not ejaculating" or celibacy. So this idea is not really in accordance with traditional Daoist practice.

An expert in Chinese religion told me that he thought that not ejaculating and not having sex was not an invention orignally in Daoism, but something brought in by Buddhism.

He didn't describe how or explained it. But the techniques of "Fang Zhong Shu" is first described in "The Treatise of Nurturing Spirituality and Lengthening Life" written by Tao Hongjing (456–536). He was a a highly well educated scholar who practiced alchemistry and a pharmacology. He also studied and wrote about things as music and astronomy. The interesting thing though, is that though he had a both confucianist and Daoist background, he was strongly influenced by Buddhism and converted completely to Buddhism later in life. So he is probably the reason why ideas of Buddhist celibacy and restrainment come to mix with Taoism.

Sure, I can understand some ppl are "interested" to know about such distinction and origin.
