would have liked it better if your guarding arm in paoquan went over the head.
thanks :)

You should watch Yang Hai, he hold the rear arm very low. This is the way they are taught. But to be perfectly honest, I dont understand this paoquan variationat all. The force generation is completely different from the variations I know. Here it looks just the same as Bengquan. But from what I understand, Yang Hai knows several different XY styles, so I am sure he has a very good reason to perform and teach it this way. ;)

You may as well not.
You know what they say about not saying anything if you don't have anything nice (or in this case constructive) to say. ;)

I guess what strange saying is Hu Bao Tou (tiger guarding his head). When counteract Pi jing, the rear hand needs some distance to absorb some of the heavy downward impact blow. Just a guess.

Basically our pao is like that because we use the pulling back of the arm and bending back of the wrist for jing in the punch.
Its still a kind of splitting force, but instead of vertical it is horizontal. We have a couple different ways of holding the arm in Pao though.... :)

Just a few comments.
1. Your elbows should always point down.
2. You need to work on strengthening your subscapularis and latisimuss dorsi so that your shoulders rotate down and back - your levator scapula are overwhelming these muscles.
3. Work on allowing your low back to relax and flatten so that your tailbone points down. Also work on sitting into your hips (you are very tight in the hips, such that your upper and lower "basins" are not connected).
