Wang Jinrang Push Hands

Postby Bao on Tue Jul 20, 2021 3:18 pm

Found this old clip with Taiwan Hulei teacher Wang Jinrang. And that is all I know, so if someone could fill in more it would be interesting to hear.

Seems like a pretty genuine session and not very cooperative or overly bouncy at all. ...Rare these day... ;D

Yep that was good. The youngster was clearly having a tough time but didn't give up half way through being pushed out, and didn't give his centre away unnecessarily.

He even caught the old dude napping around the 1:24 mark.

That is one of my Taiwan lineages. Wang Jinrang is one of the 5, 6 great old Chen masters, having brought their stuff from China to the island in 1949. Wang lived very secluded in the southern port city of Gaoxiong, and not many did even know, that he was a gongfu guy. He died some 30, 40 yrs. ago, and left a few desciples. Wang called his style small frame or Zhaobao, what brought some confusion, as it is clearly Hulei Taijiquan in the Yang Hu lineage. I know 2 of his students, studied with both of them, the one of the trembling faction has also passed (Xiao Zhefu). Zheng Guohui is still teaching, but after I met and trained with Panda Laoshi, who is the Taiwan rep of Zhang Suisheng (Hulei, Zhang lineage), I never looked back to the Yang Hu lineage. Panda, a feisty younger guy, did study many yrs. with Chen Yimian, another Wang Jinrang indoor, and did go the Henan to study with Zhang Suisheng, with the blessing of his teacher. After Chen Yimian passed, Panda brought Zhang to Taiwan, we had a real blast, training with Zhang and Panda at my university. Panda is now one of the most advanced Hulei guys I've seen (there are 11 levels, Panda somewhere at 8). A real pity, I met them too late in my life, too old to really get very far, haha!
