New practice video, 30 min

Postby Quigga on Wed Apr 06, 2022 11:42 pm

Hello, title says it all. Video is a bit unstructured, but I hope you can get something out of it.

Greetings,
Thomas

The last few karate punches I was trying to show that you can punch while inhaling. Then alternating between inhale and exhale each punch. I'll make a separate video explaining that better.

I really can't tell if this is a joke?

Not really :-D Maybe I'm just not as good as I thought. What makes you think it's a joke?

Thank you for sharing your practice. If you'd like feedback I have some thoughts...

Message is stuck in outbox for some reason, but should reach you soon.

Maybe some other people want to post recent, spontaneous practice sessions as well?

And if I show you a set of super secret moves that look martial artsy, you will be satisfied?

I love mutually amusing each other :D

Well that's the thing, isn't it. You show some techniques that I have seen before and have some interesting flexibility but 'unstructured' is in fact the theme of this video. You have done Yang style for four years, and Qigong for four years in addition to this, and yet throughout the entire video you do not show a single series of movements from these forms. Allow me to restate my earlier message. There is clearly real material in what you are showing, the question is why it is so disorganized and why you are practicing in a flamboyantly spontaneous manner. I would have liked to see a more structured or careful approach during the execution of the movements. My initial feeling is that "oh, a 30 minute practice routine, maybe he only practiced 30 minutes a day?" In that case I would like to inspire you to practice longer, but that is just my assumption. Still I am left with the overall impression that maybe you were a little shy on the camera. Always remember that when you are demonstrating for other people you are teaching them and you should not be nervous, because it is your job to show them the true form of the movements. So how could you be nervous if they are there to learn from you?

p.s. yes origami, I might post something too, but because of certain factors I would rather put out something a bit more polished, maybe when I get back to taiwan in the fall.

p.p.s. Graham you should know better than to belittle someone who is a beginner (less than 20 years of hard daily shaw-brothers inspired practice). Shame on you!
