Shifu Michelle Gong,

Followed her dream as a young girl growing up in a small rural village in China.

A dream that would lead her to go on to Wudang mountain and learn the 36 form “Wudang Taiji”.

She learned taiji as young teenager, traveling to the “temple of heaven” in Beijing to study under the taiji masters there, and would later go on to win an international competition in 2009.

Her last taiji teacher she would meet in Beijing through a friend.

She met Master Zhang Youngliang, 張永良師傅 1920–2020
a noted but very private taiji master teaching in one of the many Beijing parks.

One of my teachers students....awhile back...
Form play, reflecting our practice.... :)

Filming very impromptu, on a cold Beijing winter day :P

First taijiquan form I ever learned was 24 form. Still do it, but after 30 years of traditional Yang it looks very traditional as compared to how my first shifu showed me.

This is not very good tai chi
Why bother to post it
Don't put power into the form let it naturally arise from the form

The clip was posted to show and contrast a set done in accordance with an emphasis on different principles.

For most the principles used would tend to align with much of what "Wang Yongquan" wrote about...

Our teachers work coming from a source said to be his senior.

Some of the main differences

single weight stances 100/0
straight vertical squatting
Intent leading movement ect...

Actually a lot of the movement, not so easy to do....

Try it ;D

In our practice the 24 step was combined with what is called the 88 step sometimes referred to
as old six roads by the group.

This made the form practice time close to 45 min to an hr....

For beginners the 24 step was used as an intro / weeding out process helping them to understand what the practice was about
before moving on to the 88 step and some of the other practices....

Those looking, from other lines of "Yang's" style might find some major differences
between principles they follow in "their" ;) practices and what is shown in the clip...

Those in the back ground of the clip, a class of students learning Chinese language ,
taiji practice offered as part of the course at the time

Not really a formal class :)

Plenty of my stuff out there
I taught the 24 ,40 years ago but found those that had it as there introduction never developed like those who had the 108
Just think of the multi directional awareness up to single whip
Where in the 24 you are just walking down a corridor
Don't put power into the form let it naturally arise from the form
