I always enjoy seeing Master Chan's movement. So relaxed, rooted, circular and rhythmical, with fluidly soft, effortless changes and integrated whole body power. Very nice indeed. 8-)

Almost goes without saying that M Chan's push hands and internal power was top notch. The thing I never knew was that he had also studied 'southern' Yiquan as well as Liuhebafa in the line of You Pengxi.

The website states that he learnt it from Wu Chi-Chih - do any forum members know the Chinese characters or other information about this teacher?

People ask me what good pushing looks like
The first time I saw this guy I related
This is the type of pushing I was bought up with
Don't put power into the form let it naturally arise from the form

I loved these videos when they were first posted here a few years ago, I think before Master Chan passed away. There was a student of his who used to post here, JR Rodriguez. Today I think I appreciate them even more, having moved a little further down the road (I hope).
Among other things, you can see in these videos (especially in the second one from about 1:30 onwards) how he projects such crisp and overwhelming power into his partner's body without throwing a single ounce of his body weight against the partner. Which of course is how it should be. Master Chan remains totally upright, relaxed and rooted (sinking) straight down into the ground at the moments his intent and force go straight forward through his hands/fingers. Just like a movement from a tai chi form, and totally natural (it shouldn't be a contradiction ;)). So good.
Do not make the mistake of giving up the near in order to seek the far.
