Nice clip....

many of the movements as we practiced them ended up in a throw

Interesting

Chin shifu,,,"David Chin" hop gar said the same thing

‘Whatever you do, I don’t want. Whatever I do and you don’t know – that’s how we win.'”

I met David Chin at one of our tournaments - he did a small demo on his taiji apps at our school - many, many years ago and this clip reminded me of the flavor

Met him as a teenager,
me and Mike, "Tibetan White Crane".
did a little White Crane sparring at his gym...

Image

Gary, the defender in the picture another instructor in Mike's White Crane Gym...
good times back then :)

Had many conversations with Chin Shifu..
as an old guy over the phone :)

Had a good sense of humor, as a fighter, CMA master, very pragmatic in outlook..

In Beijing if you check some of the clips I posted,,,controlling the neck, was something quite normal...although depending on skill level
it wasn't always possible...part of the reason for practice no ?

Just one more and I'll let this topic pass:

八极拳有没有柔劲 Does BajiQuan have "Rou"(soft) Power?

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=kVDrLDDiExY

本视频通过“大缠”向大家讲解八极拳的刚劲和柔劲。打破传统认知八极拳只有刚猛威劲,柔劲一样可以克敌。This video shows BajiQuan's "Rou"(soft) power with the example of "DaChan". The purpose is to break the traditional cognition that BajiQuan only has vigorous powerful attacks. With soft and flow like wave, BajiQuan can also combat the opponent.

Re the neck holding

If it's a cheap and easy trick, neutralizing it should be just as easy and simple right

Keeping it lighthearted :-)

One time during PH, he grabbed/hooked my neck with single hook hand, then pressed down into my own structure with my face heading towards the ground

I swayed to the left 2-3cm from my centre while following his movement leading me downwards

My fascia got loaded as I relaxed into 'it' and the ground, then I took off in a leap a good 2-3m or so backwards without twisting or turning in midair much, if I remember correctly

One proper jump forward and I was touching his hands again

The bystanders were amused and shoked, I just got kind of a rush and was a bit too eager to continue

The rest of the PH was to dissipate and circulate excess energy

Fun memories :-)
