Was hoping he won all the time, but kinda more cool to see how he lost and tried to adapt

Funny I just watched that same video last night.

Yeah I sparred with a lot of different stylists in the years past, but the two capoeira guys (from the same, apparently very good, school) were by far the hardest ones to deal with. Such a completely unnatural way to fight and move, your brain has no idea how to deal with it unless you train like that (or against that) specifically. Kind of like BJJ, in that sense -- one of the older Gracies compared it to a world-class fighter (who can barely swim) going against a world-class water polo guy (who can barely fight) -- in the water.

Capoeira fighters are tough but in MMA one needs to be well rounded along with the physical conditioning.
He reminds me too much of King Nassim ;D ???

water polo is fairly violent fwiw... combining wrestling, high workrate due to swimming for movement, and always gasping for oxygen due to being under the water... i remember in HS I was told that the players would clamp sharp objects between the toes and cut players on opposing teams under water where the ref was unable to see it etc. - no high speed collisions though

Must be a rough old water polo school where you lived
I played with Olympic level players without a shank in site
It is a rough sport though

I haven’t tried that one but my 86 year old student Ivo played it on a regular basis

water polo looks like the most difficult sport in the world to me. I'm already bad at treading water. how the heck do they kind of "leap" out of the water. let alone do tactical things

:o damn...

The point, of course, was that on the ground (out of water) that hypothetical fight would surely not be ending well for the (unquestionably tough) water polo guy
