Do you work against resistance?

From time to time you need physical resistance, or else you'll separate body from mind too much, becoming a zombie :-) Mind in heaven, body in hell, ego nowhere to be found, is not good :o

There is physical resistance in the clip. The point is, how do you work against it?

Resistance is futile.

you can only feel your own resistance, not the others... :)

You get it
Most of what people refer to as resistance is just bad technique
Bruce Lee made the statement beware of the clumsey boxer
We must know how to fight someone who uses raw stupid strength
However to train against them all the time keeps you in their neibourhood
We train against those with subtle refined strength to take us into higher realms
That does not mean training with compliant partners with bad technique is of any value

CMC. it is better to train with a child than a tricky person who uses strength
Don't put power into the form let it naturally arise from the form

people just use it as a term to mean 'sparring'; essentially what Matt Thornton termed well as "aliveness" ages ago..
it's beside the point getting into the nitty gritty semantics of terms like resistance. at least it should be.
it's not that deep!

going from working with each other to effectively (yes, actively) working against each other.

skipping briefly through the clip, i didn't feel like there was any real answer there.
so I'm guessing "no", because there didn't seem to be any on display.

I think sometimes people want to be different over and above accepting best practice.

No one you will ever train from scratch will ever progress anywhere without it. (thank goodness for the other local classes I guess)
Why all the mental acrobatics trying to disavow ones selves from a sparring methodology?

it works, use it and embrace it.
but nah, why not just make things unnecessarily convoluted, semantic and go frolicking round the houses instead.. :D

"Skipping briefly through..." okay lol

I'm not disavowing sparring methodology, we use it.
No frolicking here.

Take boxing there is no resistance
There is technique power and relaxation delivered inside a set of rules
This should be true of any combat training
In rugby league they change the rules every year
Not because the rules are wrong but because coaches learn to exploit them and take them beyond their original function
That is how I see the development of MMA and as an extension street combat
A harder training better conditioned athlete with a will to win will always come out on top
I am currently enjoying McGregor forever on Netflix
It shows so much about personality adaptation and desire to win
It also shows a lot about the chattering know nothings on the sidelines
I will just call them collectively the Rogans
Don't put power into the form let it naturally arise from the form

Well yes, but why rules?

"A harder training better conditioned athlete with a will to win will always come out on top"

Not in my experience

"I am currently enjoying McGregor forever on Netflix It shows so much about personality adaptation and desire to win"

Not seen it tbh, I'm not really a fan. And "win" is a very subjective term. Did he win when he slapped that old guy in the bar, for example?
Lol@ Rogan
cheers

well ok
but, here's my point, I guess

why miss this opportunity to show a clip if a drill showing aliveness.
a drill where you show some work, some training
not some talk through demonstration thing, which is what i think i saw.

your clip seemed to be presented as answering a question you get often.
I'm aware that it's not a new question - I guess i was hoping for a new answer or a clip showing how you do it.
If you have any clips like that on your channel it would be nice to see them.

aliveness, resistance etc.

It's true Rob it's a mark of my impatience, don't take it to heart, but less waffle and more chase is what I'm personally looking for from video clips these days

I still don't really get what you are saying, given that I'm making a separate point from what you seem to think I''m making. But, in any event, here's a clip on sparring I've posted here before for you to skip through :D

I personally liked the bit at 5m 7s where your escape put you in a choke hold that your “opponent” had to quickly let go before you looked stupid.

Was he resisting wrong?
