@ Giles

"I take it you practice the 37 step ?"

Those seeking answers, should answer questions, helps in understanding
the perspective from which they arise from..

that "guy" would be me....

The other guy, very solid, had some sanda back ground...
I can share some thoughts....don't know if they would answer any questions

No bridge in Tai chi
You either have to swim across or fly
Don't put power into the form let it naturally arise from the form

I would have expected both of you to know what I meant. Hmm interesting. I'll try to make a couple of videos on this someday ;-)

Totally understand what Wayne means . :)

Do not understand why one would ask such a question

no videos, that ain’t happening ;D
A simple answer as to what you feel a bridge is, would suffice .

A matter of understanding another’s viewpoint

Suffice what? I asked if you could do the bridge, you said in so many words 'no'. I didn't see a question, just a couple of statements. As it stands I will endorse wayne's answer. Beyond that you can ask me a question if you like. For old time's sake :)

FWIW I was asking because of what I saw in the video you posted here. It's a very interesting video. In this video you seem to neutralize and yield pretty well, no real complaints, but as one travels from A to B, I wonder if he can travel from A to B through C, the problem of course is that C is after B (A, B, C...).

Secondly I suppose there is a language barrier, which I find incredibly amusing given that I do not speak Chinese.

1. 会 can mean "know how to" and can express an action that you had to learn or be trained in to do.

2. 能 means "to be able to" and expresses having a certain ability or having obtained a certain minimum requirement.

3. 可以 means "may" or "to be allowed to" and expresses having another person's permission.

When I said "can" I meant is it possible for you to do the bridge in the context of your push hands video.

To understand why one would ask such a self evident question....

"you said in so many words 'no'" ;D a mind reader also.....

Never said no,,,which is why or what is it that you feel a bridge is was asked...
As to the clip....the other guy was looking for a bridge
not finding one he had to leave... rather quickly, I helped ;D

lets try again...

To you

"what is a bridge, what do you feel its useful for." ?

Yes, you just did. But didn't I already post a video showing it? Here's another one;

The bridge is a well-known flexibility "demo" where one can bend over backwards from a standing position and then stand back up again. I'm just wondering if you can do one.

You can understand why people might be confused when this thread is about silk reeling
No I can’t go backwards into the bridge from yoga
When I trained in tang Shou Tao we would do 20 coming up off our back at rapid pace
I can’t see why you would want to do the back bend

Well some consider taijiquan a wrestling like style, and wrestlers do do the bridge, not supporting on hands but the head as a neck strengthening exercise….. I guess…..But I think that’s probably for youngsters to do

Famous Australian wrestler and boxer Hal Morgan taught me the neck bridge running around your pivot on the head 360%
He also showed me how to use the Roman Bench
Sadly I didn’t keep it up

Here’s something that everyone should try. Using just your right arm, or left if you’re left handed, do this one arm silk reeling. But instead of keeping the other hand on your hip or in the air, place the palm of your hand so that Laogong point is over Qihai point on your abdomen (place the center of your palm over the area of your stomach a couple inches below your navel).
Then, making sure that you’re both pressing your abdomen out into your palm, and pressing your palm back into your abdomen with an equal force, firmly but not hard. Then do the circular movement of the arm. You don’t need to stand as wide as he is, nor shift your weight side to side, and maybe do a slightly smaller circle. Because you’re trying to feel movement on the surface of your abdomen that is moving in the same circular motion as your arm. This will feel like it’s being tugged and pushed by your hand. Use your Intent (inner mind’s eye) to first listen to it. Your mind will be in 3 places: in the palm of your hand, sensing for any movement; in your other hand trying to make the movement perfectly circular and smooth and continuous (when your hand stops, the slight movement in your abdomen will stop, when your hand moves, the slight movement on the surface of your abdomen should move.); 3rd spot is your mind will be in your abdomen where it’s meeting your hand, and this is where you just want to listen, do not try to control it. Resist the urge to control it.
This is an informal practice, think of it as a test.
