My first MT fight

Postby JuanM on Sat Jan 17, 2009 7:25 pm

What's up everyone! Happy New Year!

I thought some of you guys would be interested in watching my first MT fight. It was an exhibition match that was set for two, two-minute rounds and there were no knees or elbows allowed. I'm the guy in the white and black "Masato" shorts. My opponent was a really cool and gifted fighter that is 18 years old and weighed in at 150 lbs. I'm 33 years old and weighed in at 143 lbs. Hope you guys enjoy.

You should have tai chi'd his ass. Then the exhibition wouldn't have ended in a tie. He'd just be dead.

Great job - where do you train?
Were you guys not allowed to clinch? or use elbows?

Good show galo, glad to see you've improved so much. The thai gym is doing you well. You've really leaned out too. Again, good job bro.

Looked like a foot to the solar plexus.

Thanks guys. Much appreciated. I'm getting terrific instruction/coaching at MTA. All the people there are first class all the way.

BTW The second knock down was with a push kick to the stomach.

Thanks Ashe,
I guess if you can't knee or elbow, then the clinch will end up being a big stall.

Nice work Juan- good hands and variety of high round, low round and push kicks.

I am going to train at a few places while in Thailand- its 4 years since i started...man time flies-

my friend recommends:

For Bangkok I recommend either Kaewsamrit or Jitti Gym. Jitti gym also gets great reviews from the people I know who train there.

If you go to Phuket, Sinbi Gym is the only place to train. There are other popular camps, but they are crap. Tiger Muay Thai Camp is like a frat boy camp, Rawai Muay Thai Camp is filled with over weight house wives. Their websites make it look like a great place to train, but when you get there, you will be disappointed.

The trainer to student ratio is nearly 1:1, so you have a good chance of having a former lumpinee champ as you personal trainer for the day.

Good! You didn't get schnozzed. ;)
I define internal martial art as unusual muscle recruitment and leave it at that. If my definition is incomplete, at least it is correct so far as it goes.

Kurt:

Are elbows routinely allowed in US MT? IIRC, amateur MT in the UK and Korea allowed knees (critical weapons in MT) but not elbows.

Also IIRC, most bouts I have seen in Thailand don't use elbows - they tend to throw 'em when it is a major bout, or if they get seriously pissed of with each other.
