this has been posted a few times before, but it's worth re-watching.

I like how he started his guys with modified shaolin, then xingyi, and the ONLY after that, bagua and taiji. obviously this approach worked.

Yeah, great stuff. In fact, it was the book based on the BBC series that got me interested in Hsing-I in the first place back in the early '80s. It's quite a synchronicity that the first group I would find to train with was one of the American branches of the Tang Shou Tao. Awesome stuff!

Awesome... I actually just watched it last night for the first time. Hong looked like a seriously cool guy to train with. I get the feeling he probably had a great sense of humor as well. :)

I love that stuff, Ashe. It's given me all kinds of huge benefits over the years. I highly reccomend it.

I learned a whole big self massage set from my old teacher, but you can get a lot of those exercises in Da Liu's book on Taoist exercises. They actually make a great way to round out a class if you'd like to reap great benefits for you and your students and extend the teaching longer.

Best,

S

No problems there. ILC is an inch wide and a mile deep. My problem is more the opposite, too much to cover and not enough time. :D

I actually meant filler in a good way.

In my experience a good class will always be more than the student can handle (info-wise) and the best way to give them a resonably good workout without overwhelming them is with this kind of thing. The benefits are big, it's easily practiced in a group and it makes a good transition between sections of "meat". A good warm down too.

Best,

S

i have a couple of sets that include some massage and tapping

one has some extensive massage for the face
including the jaw muscles and the upper and lower jaw at the base of the teeth

good stuff for getting rid of tension and getting in touch with the body
also deepens the level of relaxation

sort of a physical way to get the slight smile going...
