Yang Fukui 5 Elements

Postby bigphatwong on Fri Jun 05, 2009 11:20 pm

Came across this clip and thought I'd post it up. You can tell his Hsing-i is heavily influenced by his Tai Chi, but I like the way he moves nonetheless.

Does anyone know who his teacher was?

Yes, I liked that too - soft then suddenly powerful, and smooth, rather than staccato. I'd be interested to learn who/what/where he comes from.

Well, from what I know he's also a Yiquan guy, so that could explain the speeding up and slowing down bit as in Jian Wu.

Still curious who he trained with... anyone?

That explains it. His transitions between elements looked yiquanish to me, the end of Pao in particular.

Yang comes from a family of martial artists and was a wushu judge in China.

I believe that his father's side is where his hsingyi comes from and that somewhere along the line he picked up his yiquan through someone in Zhao Dao Xin's lineage. He learned the Xinhuizhang form which Zhao created. He claims to have studied with Zhao Dao Xin but his age and the fact that Zhao Dao Xin did not have very many students makes this suspect.

I studied with him for a couple of months about 10 years ago.

Nah Shawn, I think you have him mixed up with the other yiquan teacher in New York, namely Wang Ren Gong.

Jumpin in late here liked his movement and power expression alot. Not sure where his i chuan comes from but pretty sure his uncles were students under zhang zhao tung for hsing i and pa kua. He also has a really nice clip of his cheng style pa kua I will see if i can find it and his chen form is nice too.
