I agree. The ball is way too heavy. MA practitioner should know what they aim for, why they train for.
The objective of this exercise is actually train how to utilize your core (body) to manipulate the ball.
If not done properly, practitioner may end up using strength from upper body solely.
However, i could be wrong here.

as i understand it, ball training is for hand conditioning, sensitivity, flexibility, and also continuous flow of intention. as such the ball has weight but cannot be too heavy. if very heavy then after overcoming inertia, it is very difficult to change the direction of the ball. when this happens it becomes the ball control you.

of course this is lhbf point of view. i do not know what the gent is trying to achieve; we each have our own way. difference and diversity can be interesting.

Yeah, you gots to have some pretty big balls to train with a ball that big.

Jokes aside, why knock this kind of training? Sure, I suppose I could train with a 10lbs kwan dao (you know, the ones people think are so heavy) but I thoroughly enjoy my 40lbs kwan dao. I get a hell of a much better benefit from it.
