Yao Chengguang - sitting postures

Postby dacheng on Tue May 13, 2008 3:37 am

Basic training method of yiquan is called zhan zhuang - standing post. But there are also sitting postures and lying on back postures etc.

The posturse are usually divided into 2 groups:
- more basic, more concentrating on relaxation and preparing for more demanding practice - usually called 'health postures'
- more demanding, concentrating on developing unified force, with more intense mind activity and body work - usually called 'combat postures'

People usually know about sitting variants of 'health postures', but not many heard about sitting variants of 'combat postures' - in situation when you can't keep contact with ground with your foot/feet, you still keep whole body connection.

Here master Yao Chengguang teaching sitting combat posture:

Out of curiousity, how are sitting postures incorportated into standard Yi Quan training? Are they more for people who can't stand for long period of time yet for health reasons, or do they train something different than standing?

Answer related to "combat posts" is already in first post:

As for "health posts" it's mostly for people who are sick and weak and cannot do normal training, or when you are very tired. But sitting variants of "combat posts" can actually be much more physically demanding than standing.
