Pushing Hand Immovable Old Zhu

This is the most memorable scene to me in Lee Ang's early movie Pushing Hand. A mean boss at a NY Chinese restaurant wanted to fire Old Zhu. Old Zhu said no problem if the boss could move him. Unknown to the boss, colleagues and police, Old Zhu was a former national Taiqi champion in China

Those scenes in the movie were inspired by Ang Lee's encounter with Chu Gin Soon, a Yang style teacher in Boston. Lee had heard about Taiji from one of his friends, who was Chu's student at the time. As the story goes, Lee was rather skeptical regarding Taiji's rooting and fa-jin skills. So his friend took him to his teacher, Chu Gin Soon, and had those skills demonstrated on Lee. Lee became a believer on the spot, and later decided to include the experience with Master Chu in his movie. (Hence the main character's name, Mr. Zhu -- the Mandarin pronunciation for "Chu" as in Chu Gin Soon.)

Thanks for info, C.J. Wang---this is one of my favorites movies, not because of the Taiji, but because of how the contrast between East and West is made. Eat Drink, Man, Woman is also one of my very favorites.
