The teacher is talking about maintaining connection and tendonous strength without rigidity - he is showing the student where and when he breaks power. He shows this in the upper and lower extremities, and points out where the force should end up in the body of the person absorbing and pushing just before the push.

The guy in the video is a Taiwanese Taiji practitioner who's known to write didactic, almost encryptic, posts on various Chinese Taiji discussion forums under the alias "Mai Lao." (Mai Lao is part of a Chinese saying 'Yi Lao Mai Lao," which basically means that 'I'm old and been around the block, so I deserve respect and be taken seriously not matter what I do or say.')
