I like what he's saying, it's all true , but his demos are showing only half power. He's using full body weight , but he's only using the upper body to generate the power, there's no explosion off the legs.
The point . is absolute

Oh stop it GrahamB, you, yourself, have posted your Xing I expounding the virtues of exploding off of the legs, gravity and weight is great , but even better with the force of speed.

The mechanics he shows in striking is no different than a decent boxer's right cross or a "superman" hopping punch.

I was there. Great day. These are just some of the highlights.

I don't think Dennis needs the exploding legs :) Its like dropping a ton of bricks on someone and saying, "actually you should set the bricks on fire first and then drop them on him".

He hits very hard anyway, the bag in the background is solid, full of sand with a lead core thats why it has a layer of padding around it.

I also have it on good authority that Graham's xing yi doesn't use "exploding off the legs" either.

LOL ;D That is the problem with the Internet, like Daniel's joke:

"How many martial artists doe it take to change a lightbulb?

100.

1 to change it and 99 to say, "That's not how we do it in our style"."

:P :-\ :-[ ;D :o :-* :'(

At around 4.50 the drill he is doing is surely the genesis of, and the rationale for, push hands. He says this is the way real fights are and what he is immediately thinking of is how to get a strike in. This is exactly what push hands is for IMO.

I know Dennis Jones has a big rep per se in the UK, but pretty basic body mechanics being shown, and only parts of the body being used, now if he wanted to really juice it up, he should go to a ken fish seminar

I dont know the guy myself but have read some of his stuff. We are talking about a guy who knows from a huge amount of first hand experience what DOES work when your in the shit. If we don't have experience like his and are training for SD then what he has to say should be of interest.

The point is guess is this ... if he has protected himself, survived alot of real violence in his life with what he is doing AND got a rep from it ... Then why would he need to change what he knows works for the sake of ideal IMA mechanics?

If you already have a gun that can kill anyone you meet ... why go buy a bigger one?

cheers
