This looks like the "Old Qi" school of large frame Tongbei that I had seen in Taiwan. Very cool.

C.J. - the majority of good Tongbei in Taiwan was represented by Ge Guoliang and his students (Lao Qi Pai, as you mentioned) and Meng Zhaoxun (Baiyuan Tongbei). What you saw was probably the former - very good, solid, old style Lao Qi style Tongbei - I think they practice in Zhonghe.

Hi Doc, my teacher's younger brother attended Culture University as a CMA major the very first year the department was established, and Master Meng was one of his instructors. He recalls Meng demonstrating a very different way of holding the fist and unique striking methods.

Here are some short Tongbei drills from Ge Guoliang's lineage in Taiwan, demonstrating by one of his grand students. (The teacher in this lineage is also a student of Wei Xiao-Tang, so they practice Eight Step Mantis in combination with Tongbei.)
