I Like This Wing Chun...

I like this. Some great stuff from the 70s. As big and muscular as the guy is, he seems to be really smooth.

Damn, that's a shame.

I liked the clip, good Wing Chun, and I dig that whole 70's kung fu vibe.

No. This is Jerry Gardner. A former student of Chung Kwok Chow. He's still alive.

He was my first taiji teacher.

He's a badass.

Looks nice. Not knowing much about WC, I would have thought that a style developed by a woman would have more softness and speed.

Some practice it hard/external, others practice a more soft and fluid version. It depends which teacher/line you're from.

Interesting that Jerry Gardner learned from Duncan leung who is in virginia Beach VA. He is my WC instructors teacher, when I was into WC back in early 90's.

Sorry for the wrong lead...

Hey Chris, look into Pan Nam Wing Chun you may see more of the soft your looking for...

The bongsau is often based on the height of the practitioner perference. In Pan Nam its done at the waist cause you wouldn't want to deflect a fist into your face. Some of the best examples of Wing Chun is still Wong Shung Yueng ...he kicked major ass in the challenge days in Hong Kong...

Yes, I was sort of getting at the idea that perhaps people tended to try to "improve" an art that didn't need improving. I tend to like big displays of power though, so it's all good. It's just that in doing so, a person could tend to miss the real heart of the art.

On another note, I really miss the way announcers used to talk, like the one on the clip. They sound so serious!

WC was most likely not developed by a woman. Ng Mui and Yim Wing Chun can be deciphered as code-words about specific things.

There was a video about a Wing Chun teacher doing applications...I loved it because he pushed the guy with no effort, and also the way the teacher talked ("you want to fight, you push me, then i push you!"...or something like that).

I hope someone remembers which clips I'm talking about and post them here.
