Hmm, I don't like the way he's using his rear hand. I don't see a nice clear separating energy there.

Yea, I noticed that and thought the same before, too. What I might be able to say here is that the focus is not the hand but the whole body. The 'separation energy' is 'inside', and so not so noticeable in appearance.
Xingyi based: Yea, my martial brothers - die-hard Xingyi guys - had the same remark after they came over with me to train with GSL. It's definitely quite power based. One reason may be because Ma Weiqi, our primary lineage man, was famous for hammer blows.
empty-handed sword form: yea hhaha, no idea about that. He probably just couldn't be bothered to bring a sword to the park.

It seems that you train with Guo. Perhaps you could tell us where he got his Ma Weiqi Bagua from? Ma died at a young age and I was not aware that there's anybody out there who studied under him and learned his art.
