Weed and training softness

Postby BonesCom on Mon Aug 31, 2009 12:46 pm

I had an interesting discussion with a friend of mine the other day, he's a bjj man and he was saying he's heard a number of high up (no pun intended) bjj players say they enjoy smoking weed and grappling, apparently they feel more relaxed and have less tendancy to gas-out. Another fellow was saying he enjoys sculpting stoned because his hands have a mind of their own, it also reminded me of the end of Pumping Iron, when Arnie's toking. I haven't heard anyone say they smoke then spar/PH, does anybody? Thoughts?

BTW Yes I smoke, but never before training, makes my legs shakey.

OK got a video. On the bodybuilding side, apparently some people believe it aids recovery, here's Arnie:

In the context of rolling during class -whatever, but for a grappling tournament or MMA I wouldn't take the chance.
I have seen some people get hurt while training and find out later that they were stoned and making stupid mistakes. I think if your rolling lightly and maintianing low energy you prolly won't get hurt, but if your going at it , you want your brain front and center and not foggy.

Unless you plan to fight stoned, why would you want to train stoned?

Haven't (and wouldn't) spar stoned. But I do remember when Mo-Ling was in Oakland, being at his place and getting blotto stoned, then pushing hands at 2:00 in the morning, followed by eating massive amounts of pasta that his wife cooked us. Don't know how productive it was for my martial development, but it sure was fun... ;D ;D

problem with the weed and fight is
that you may like to quit and change activity in the meedlee :D
so
if you don`t win in 1st sec...

from my experience it may give you some "extra" endurance,
dont know about softness,
i`m too soft alredy so i`m trying to find hard in softness right now.
Have no idea about PH either,
but
i have Yang`s TJ around corner
and i will give them try -box-
however don`t count on it too much-
- because i`m like Tao stoned all the time it will be hard to compare... ;D

Seriously , it depends of ones experience with herbs and trainings
anyway THC is on the list of the evil substances
so for shure has some positive effect for our bodys

For me personally, it is very counterproductive. Better to have a clear head, isn't that what we're training for?

anything involving accurate timing and precision of movement, shifting weight between knees etc etc

we need a clear mind and quickly responsive body movement.

so no substance of influencing your mind/head or neurological system.

I know some people would take muscle relaxant medicine. or a bit of rice wine.

to relax the mind and body.

it is better to take a swim, or some light movement to warm up.
