How is this ba ji quan different from Liu Yun Qiao's Ba Ji Quan? Anyone knows?
momfalos (1 year ago)

Momfalos Legend tells that BaJiQuan originated either in Yueshan Temple (Henan) or from Taoist monk Lai in Hebei. This video is as close to the original Yueshan style as you will find as it is taught by the family Ma who have direct blood lineage to the Yueshan Temple creator.

I believe Liu Yun Qiao's style is from Hebei (North of Henan) as it incorporates PiGuaZhang & BaGuaZhang. Originally PiGua and BaJi were taught as one and LiShuWen recombined them in the 1900s after centuries of separation.

eagleclaw1080 Reply HAHA.... what a new history about Ma.... and since when that Ma's tongbei baji turn to NEW WUSHU

this is a very good thread that raised several very important questions.

1. origins of baji boxing methods.

2. what is yue shan baji?

3. is yue shan baji different from wu tan?

4. what is the original baji form?

1. origins

this is an actively debated and researched area.

1. baji is the same as ba zi or rake fist as described in ming's general qi ji guang's "new record of martial effects" ji xiao xin shu.

2. wandering daoist monk "lai" taught Wu Zhong.

3. from yue shan temple at henan province. shaolin monk zhang yue shan taught Wu Zhong.

4. from song shan shaolin temple. it is a courtyard guarding fist/boxing method.

baji fist is also called kai men ba ji or yue shan ba ji. kai men meanining opening the opponent's door. yue shan means the original teacher is zhang yue shan.

Ma Feng Tu had many recorded writing about ba ji from yue shan.

Ma Ming Da did some researches.

but origin of ba ji is still open for debates.

2. what is yue shan ba ji?

yue shan ba ji is just a different name to call ba ji fist. relating to the "fact" that it is from yue shan temple.

it is no different from any "other" ba ji.

3. is yue shan different from wu tan? continued.

wu rong (daughter of wu zhong) moved to meng cun, cang zhou. meng cun became the area that propagated ba ji boxing methods.

2 branches emerged.

a. meng cun: wu family -> wu nan, wu shi ke. they influenced ma feng tu.

b. luo tuan: wang si learned at meng cun. he moved to luo tuan and taught zhang ke ming. zhang ke ming passed to zhang jin xin, huang si hai etc.

wang si-> zhang ke ming -> zhang jin xin -> li shun wen, ma yin tu, han hua cheng, zhang yu heng (son of zhang jin xin)

li shu wen ->liu yun qiao -> adam hsu (wu tan)
