this is an interesting video. With a good comment from the poster.

Interesting hmm?
Video from russianspetsnaz.com
I love russian martial art, but i my opinion is that here we see problem that one of fighters is in effect-state and the other in cause-state. I think Vadim is incredible martial artist, but years of training in defense state make him a little bit unreal. But little attack training by for example Aleksandr Belov' s Slavyano Goritskaya Borba or any other of these "rave" perfect russian martial arts and i think he would surely win.In fact this is the second fight when i see this cosmetic problem in systema Kadochnikova which causes defeat of this great school in sparring.Comments are welcome

What are your thoughts.

Cheers
Chris

I think the Systema guy is in the defensive mode waiting for the Muy Thai guy to rush forward with combinations so that he could pull off some grappling moves or takedowns --techniques that a typical Muy Thai fighter aren't familiar with.

The Muy Thai guy, most likely unfamiliar with Systema, plays it safe by testing the water with only occasional strikes and moving in/out of range quickly.

It'd be helpful if the Systema guy had used some powerful entry moves.

yeh i think that the systema guy was missing 'entry' skill from his arsenal. How to get to your opponent and bring the fight to them.

The 'waiting game' the systema guy is playing clearly in not paying off for him in this situation, its simply getting him a bruised up leg ... As the poster of this clip mentions, the constant training of 'defence state' seems to have destroyed the ability to attack or take appropriate action.

I think its an interesting clip because it highlights that even if one thing is missing it can screw your whole game plan up.

A good game plan has to have reactive and active components, it seems this guy has been working on reactive methods so long he has lost his ability to be active.

and where was this stuff when he needed it!

I like the systema guys movement.... first time I have seen someone who moves anything remotely like i think i do(in sparring). But he certainly lacks in terms of offensive movement.... some jabs and bridging skill may be a good thing to lure the MT guy into his world.

LOL. Woz that the same chap? Looked like it. If so, that great truism of MA holds truer than ever:
Playing around with your own students and sparring a competitive bloke from another system are very, very different situations.

That MT chap was very fast.

The systema guy definitely could have been more aggressive.

that was interesting foot work by the sustema guy. he seemed unable to move himself around the ring in a way that allowed him to effectively respond offensively or defensively.

Too much flinching. Compare with guys who spar a lot and practice forward pressure:

Keep in mind this Kadochinikov instructor got the thumbs up from Gene LeBell. You can find it on youtube.

yeah i agree of the defence. And training just on side of fighting makes you vulnerable. And the thai cat had some awsome kicks.

Starov doesn't have a good rep in RMA circles and after watching that clip I can see why.
