Tim Cartmell - practical chin na

Postby ashe on Fri Nov 20, 2009 4:17 pm

i removed the topic started by alan as the videos he linked to were the intellectual property of Tim Cartmell. (in other words he sells that video).

the CMA community in general needs to support itself on this, and RSF especially needs to support the issue of intellectual property for reasons i hope should be abundantly clear.

don't post links to shit people are trying to make a living from.

Alan
, just to reinforce what Tom already said, I wasn't singling out you or your post. ;)

as a general policy As Chinese martial artists, we shouldn't be in the business of breaking rice bowls.

We've always done that. The last time was when someone posted those full Jerry alan johnson vids on Google vids.

If it's a full thing that wasn't put up there by the clips actual owner we generally remove it unless it's really old or for some reason someone is no longer recieving anything for the work they put in on the tape (I know of a few people this has happened to.)

Anyhoo, my point is this is nothing new. We've been policing pirated stuff since we started having martial arts vids generally and publicly available over the web...before that actually.

Best,

S

P.S. I now want to know when Tim will actually make his chin na tape available. I think I'd like to buy one. It looked really good.

+1

Even better if he would release an up dated version on dvd with bonus sparring footage. The sparring footage of Tim & co. on the standup grappling dvd is awesome.

I'll second that. I've got a ton out of my copy of the standing grappling DVD. It's one of the best instructional things I"ve got.

Ditto. It's also been helpful in other portions of my practice, other than the main content of the dvd.

I contacted Tim by email to inform him of the appearance of his video material on Youku.com. He replied with thanks, saying that he was unaware of the situation, and that he would look into what might be done to remedy it ASAP.

I applaud the mods for removing his videos from this site. 8-)
