Well, South Korea didn't shut down, nor has Sweden. S. Korea has 50 million people, and 211 deaths. Sweden, with 10 million people, has almost the same number of cases, but has 887 deaths. Check for yourself.

Although Sweden is not in a total lockdown, entrepreneurs are already suffering.

The information sources are kind of funny depending on one’s viewpoint, determines what one accepts.

added to life experiences it can paint very different pictures among different people.

In Germany a place called baumholder . We administered the vaccination for H1n1 to the infantry battalion we were in. More than half the unit was put out of action, the vaccination itself was called into question as having caused a lot of problems. Discontinued within the first year of its release.

This was around 1976

Reading some of the reports concerning this virus it seems that many of the lessons are not learned.
I wonder about some of the mitigation efforts being undertaking in the US versus those in other countries,
and past pandemics.

Hey, they did what they did. They virus will do what it does.

Sweden is something of an outlier in the Coronavirus pandemic, having taken a "flexible" approach to restricting movements within its borders, but its Prime Minister Stefan Löfven has since conceded that was not good enough.

Mr Löfven has faced criticism over Sweden's lack of preparedness for a crisis of this nature, including its lack of emergency drug stockpiles.

The blame for this, however, lies on the shoulders of a string of governments, rather than just his own, Mr Löfven said.

"All parties have a responsibility in that, because [civil defence] was something that was phased out gradually after the Cold War, so that's three decades we're talking about," Mr Löfven said.

"Since then, many governments have contributed to this."

Though some protections like social gathering limits of 50 people and a ban on visits to aged care facilities had been put in place when the severity and global impact of COVID-19 became apparent, the Government relied on citizens to choose to be responsible and allowed many businesses to continue operating.

The Government justified this unusually relaxed approach as an assurance for the future.

"We want measures that work in the long run, since this pandemic likely will continue for months," the Prime Minister's department said at the beginning of this month.

hindsight is 20/20 but it was a bad (set of) decisions.

still time to try to do what might help going forward.

someone posted a grocery store sign that said approximately:
- 100% compliance > over in a few weeks.
- 80% compliance : over in 13 weeks.
- 70% compliance: just keeps going.

I doubt a pandemic/forecasting expert works at this store, but the point is likely valid even if the math and numbers aren't quite right.

US five day update.

Total cases: *368,533 4/7
Total deaths: *11,008

Total cases: 399,979 4/8
Total deaths: 12,912

Total cases: 432,579 4/9
Total deaths: 14,830

Total cases: 486,490 4/10
Total deaths: 18,002

Total cases: 514,415 4/11
Total deaths: 19,882

Total cases: 554,226 4/12
Total deaths: 21,994

Still doubling around every five days, but not increasing that much on average. Another interesting figure is that the US has tested 2,805,892 patients. Let's make that an even 3 million. Of that, half a million have tested positive. That number can be scaled up or down

As the usual socialdemokrat the prime minister won’t take full responsibility during bad times, while if good things happen it’s all due to him and his party.
For at least some hundred years now the social Democratic Party has by far ruled most of the time....Do not trust that PM

Fixed that for you, if you'll excuse me. It's not easy to find a political leader around the world who doesn't more or less follow this pattern. (A few do to some extent, but they are not the norm). And I don't think the current POTUS can be accused of being a social democrat...

@trick

The news put out by China to the US,
seems that things are getting back to normal.

How would you assess it
from your vantage point ?

yes i kind of know what you mean, but i have met quite a few top politicians(swedish) and only two socialdemocrats stood out as genuinly good persons, althoug they where not longlived at their top positions and where eventually swept under the rug....however, this not the thread to talk about sneaky political viruses, so back to corona......eh, wait maybe this covid thing is a part of some kind of political warfare......ill take that to the "crazy virus thread" then
