Movies that scared you as a kid

For me, there is only one movie that ever scared the cr@p out of me....

Jimmy Hunt plays the quintessential American boy of the post-war years--a freckle-faced kid named David who's curious, alert, and possibly prone to elaborate flights of fancy. Then, during a midnight thunderstorm, he witnesses the landing of a flying saucer that buries itself underground in a nearby field. David's father (Leif Erickson) indulges his son's urging to investigate... and thus begins a bizarre and chilling story of alien invasion, with David's cries of "Martians!" falling on deaf ears as more and more adults are abducted, probed, and placed under alien control.

Totally creeped me out. The only film ever to give me nightmares.

The Exorcist. I was in 6th or 7th grade and we moved to a small town and I saw it on HBO the very first night we were in the new house. Imagine being a kid in an unfamiliar house with boxes and stuff piled everywhere, and watching that movie by yourself alone in the dark. I couldn't sleep after that.

I think that movies that have kids in danger are much scarier to children then if only adults are threatened..

I don't know if I watched the Exorcist or not as a kid. All I remember is not wanting to see it as a teenager.


I sort of remember two movies that freaked me out a bit as a kid: the first one involved a drug investigation on some sort of space station or mining colony. I remember that in the beginning some dude high on something thought that he had a spider crawling on his skin, so being in space and not having access to said spider, he decided to remove his helmet in order to advance in his quest of getting himself rid of the spider. There was some gore in that movie and this shocked me.

Another one involved another station on some planet or moon. There was team there and they had problems, I think they were disappearing one by one. Finally they found this lost dude without arms and legs that they thought was crazy.


I don't remember much more about the movies, except that the first one had some white, hexagonal or octagonal corridors.

Those old black and white horror movies that they made in the 60's used to creep me out. Not the classic Dracula or Werewolf movies from the 50's, but the more gothic horror films they made later in the 60's right before color movies became common.

I saw 'Two on a guillotine' as a kid and thought it was pretty twisted. As when they had two people tied to a guillotine, but with both of them facing upward, so they could see the blade fall.

My parents love movies so as a kid they always took me to see the craziest stuff, that I don't think most parents would take kids to nowadays because they know better.

The one's that stands out in my mind is the THING.

As a kid that movie just f***ed me up! v
