Brett, I don't believe it's a plan or was planned. I think Jackson was offended. Well, Jackson, Sharpton and Farrakhan are the easy "black" targets --because they are presented as "black" leaders simply because they can draw a crowd. (If anything's a plan, it's the media suggestion that there are "black" leaders). So, when a media created black leader (who's generally a pastor or leader of a church) makes a comment about another black person, it's seen as dissension in the race. Everybody talks shit about individualism, until it comes to race; then, Americans expect group-think. In reality, it's their "group-think" that has been and is the problem.

Anyway, I just tried to point out that nobody talks about "white leaders." It'd be considered "racist" if a black person said so in print or in a sermon. And, I don't think it'd be healthy if black people were afraid to criticize a candidate for his actions. Shucks, how many white people are not going to vote for McCain because he's white? Wouldn't that be stupid.

Long story short: people disagree, even within families. It's not a big deal and proves nothing.

IMO, - the crux of the matter is:

Individual Responsibility vs. Government Responsiblity.

Do you agree with Bill Cosby, and say, "Black people need to take a good look in the mirror,- if they want to see the source of their problems, and (their solutions)"...

... or do you agree with Jesse Jackson, Al Sharpton and The Victimization Industry and say, "it's the goverment's fault, and it is up to the goverment to fix it".

IMO, everyone should look into the mirror, ( myself included )...

... I don't think anyone should get a "Get Out Of Self-Responsiblity Free Card" - things just don't work that way.

Barrak Obama is mixed race, identified by himself and by society as "black" ...

... his Father skipped out, and he was raised by his mother's family, I don't really know what his views are, - or how they were shaped by his upbringing, - but one thing is for sure:

I don't really think that there's a plan either, although it gives cable news something to blather on about to fill the airtime. And doesn't the identification of certain people as "black leaders" have the effect, on some level, of trivializing the black community, insofar as it presumes the existence of a monolithic group that is devoid of disparate views or opinions? Your point about "white leaders" as leaders for a "white community" is well taken.

Yes, Brett. That's why it's not significant that many people (black, white, yellow, brown) disagree with Obama. Making it significant is simply race-baiting. That's why I disagreed with what Obama said. If he's supposed to be the American candidate, he should concentrate on talking the same to all Americans. And, if he's saying what he did to gain support from the "white" community, well, read the responses and tell me your opinion.

The funny thing is, if Jackson had said, "I'd like to suck Obama's dick," the same voices would be raised saying "See, that's why I wouldn't vote him. You can't trust anyone who'd get a blowjob from that scumbag." With 99% of these threads that come up, it's 6 of 1, 1/2 dozen of the other. He's the "too bright, unaverage, charismatic inexperienced, chauvinist-fascist-socialist-fascist, racist puppet of the capitalist power structure. And, he's a Christian, to boot." Can't argue with all of that.

Yeah, that happens to be the big question on the block. I.e., whether Jackson is showing how irrelevant he is. If you have a chance, listen to an "urban contemporary" radio station. They have callers on some shows (see if you can find Michael Baisden show (sp?)). Anyway, the big topic of conversation has been "WTF?" Where did Reverend Jackson get that idea. Then again, Jackson's shot at a nomination was kayoed by his "New York is hymietown" comment. (Not that I knew what a hymie was. Musta been a southern thing.) But, the point is that Jackson has an unexpectedly foul mouth. It's also hard to compare what he said to anything Bill Cosby says. Naw, Mr. Jello pudding pops tried to tell Eddie Murphy to clean up his act. But, it was how Jackson expressed his displeasure with Obama that people just shook their heads at. It wasn't "how could he say that about another brother" or 'See, he's just jealous." It was more, "Poor Jesse is getting up there in years" and "This dude just doesn't make sense any more."
