"And doesn't the identification of certain people as "black leaders" have the effect, on some level, of trivializing the black community, insofar as it presumes the existence of a monolithic group that is devoid of disparate views or opinions?"
Yes, Brett. That's why it's not significant that many people (black, white, yellow, brown) disagree with Obama. Making it significant is simply race-baiting. That's why I disagreed with what Obama said. If he's supposed to be the American candidate, he should concentrate on talking the same to all Americans. And, if he's saying what he did to gain support from the "white" community, well, read the responses and tell me your opinion.
The funny thing is, if Jackson had said, "I'd like to suck Obama's dick," the same voices would be raised saying "See, that's why I wouldn't vote him. You can't trust anyone who'd get a blowjob from that scumbag." With 99% of these threads that come up, it's 6 of 1, 1/2 dozen of the other. He's the "too bright, unaverage, charismatic inexperienced, chauvinist-fascist-socialist-fascist, racist puppet of the capitalist power structure. And, he's a Christian, to boot." Can't argue with all of that.
