Here's an article on artisan coffee roasting.

http://www.sfgate.com/cgi-bin/article.cgi?f=/c/a/2008/05/14/FDH310J6RV.DTL

At those prices, it further emphasizes why it makes $ense to home roast. $10 for two cups of specialty coffee could be spent on 2 lbs of coffee at Sweet Maria's.

Viva the home roasters!

so...
josh & josh, how does your home roast compare to what you drank before? if you haven't yet, do a comparison test. you'll be surprised.

Definitely better, I made a batch of Peet's yesterday just to compare, and there's a noticeable difference... although I'm still fine-tuning my technique for the darker roasts.

Much better. Fresh, delicious and it has distinct flavors unlike what I was drinking before (even if the coffee was good, not too many of the coffee retailers in Philly are good about storage/maintenance of their coffees so it's already stale by the time I would buy it most of the time). Pretty awesome!

It's really theraputic roasting as well. I've been doing it on my days off and it's a nice thing to spend a couple of hours doing. Relaxing for sure.
