I doubt that it’s that easy. Our brains have been suppressing information for most of our lives in order to prevent sensory overload (as experienced by some autistic individuals, for example). It is my understanding that we have only two frontal lobes in our brains capable of holding conscious attention (despite claims for multitasking abilities, research evidence indicates that more that two things demanding our simultaneous conscious attention is too much, and is something that magicians, pickpockets, etc., take advantage of), and even then we are not really thinking of two things simultaneously, but are instead switching rapidly back and forth between the two tasks (and adding a third task means that one of the three will be ignored while the brain focuses on only two…).

Most things we experience appear to be relegated to the subconscious. We have subconscious awareness, but it is suppressed from taking up our limited conscious attention. I agree that everyone may be capable of experiencing extrasensory phenomenon, but most will be incapable of bringing that subconscious awareness to our conscious attention! If our brains have decided that the information is not important enough to bring to our conscious attention, then that lifelong habit would be VERY difficult to counteract.

Actually, it really is that simple and easy, because extrasensory phenomenons generally have nothing to do with conscious awareness or decision making.

Instead, these phenomenons are solely motivated by a subconscious awareness, which can generate an automatic reaction or a spontaneous response totally devoid of any conscious thought or analysis.

This is much like the instantaneous withdrawal of a hand touching something unexpectedly hot or something which releases an electrical shock, but on a much more subtle level involving things that are completely unperceived through normal physical sensory input. 8-)

Ah wouldn’t that be the purpose of pushing hands

You just surf the curve that's in-between the Yin Yang symbol

Existing on the border of hyper- and unconsciousness

It's quite the trip :D

Obviously the purpose of pushing hands is to see who's stronger. Lol! /S

For me personally, push hands practice is a tool for developing enhanced tactile sensitivity to ever more subtle changes in speed, strength, power, pressure, direction of movement, etc, felt at the points of contact. As such, it is primarily focused on generating a greater sensory awareness of physical feeling, rather than non-physical extrasensory awareness.

hahaa
my experience is, that I was trying consciously stop it when it happened.
It is really hard time when you can even feel pain cached fly :-\
Today, 3 years from such experience I don`t try to open this door again.
I suppose, that I can return to such state of mind in coupe of weeks specialised practice,
but
I would do it only deep in mountains/forest, far from the emotional noise of human minds such state of mind can be learned and mastered.

BTW thank you Doc for the thread, it helps me a lot on my Way.

I have concluded that the average individual constantly perpetuates a 'monkey mind' mental state. Since they are so immersed in overthinking damn near everything, it is virtually impossible for them to intuitively receive extrasensory awareness of anything.

Our minds are capable of both conscious thought transmission and subconscious intuitive reception, but are not able to engage both simultaneously. Thus, the less active the conscious mind becomes, the more active the subconscious mind becomes.

Just @me next time, bruh. :D

It's easy to be serene and enlightened in a cave in a mountain, but living in and dealing with the modern world and it's demands and distractions can be a bit overwhelming.

I find "directed passive reception" to be the best for me to touch this kind of stuff. Attuned to a person or "thing" another person is attuned to and just passively receiving. Third man.

How does one know when one passes from thinking to overthinking?
