the dispacther asked ih he was white, black or hispanic, then the guy described him.

i for one say the dude has issues and is probably guilty of murder, and im sure a court will decide this? already i have seen things on the web about racism and a civil war coming etc etc,

we know he was told to back off, we do know he had called cops like 40 times in just a few weeks so was way overzealous of his neighborhood watch b.s. and an innocent kid is gone!

It is my sincere belief that the problem is that there are people who have no faith that the case has been or will be prosecuted on the basis of the facts. Yep, many of those people are Black people; but, they're certainly not alone, especially in this case. The first people to speak out against Zimmerman were the (White) neighbors who were witnesses. I don't think that this case is one, like OJ, where there will be racial "sides" taken. But, the fact that Zimmerman wasn't arrested at first almost guaranteed that the Black community would see "racism" at work. Nope, not Zimmerman's, it was the police department that accepted his story that illustrates "racism." Like I said, if Z had been arrested, it would have been only about him.

was the case dropped and closed or did they just didnt have enough to arrest him "yet", and they were still investigating and gathering witnesses and testimony?
i havent seen the coverage lately so maybe this was covered but heres my question--
if the victim was white do you think the sheriff would have acted different and the guy would have been arrested? or is it possible the shooter had some sort of relationship with police based on his neighborhood watch activity that maybe favoritism is present but not racism?

Beegs ... It's ok ... It's a free country... And we keep moving forward... Don't be afraid we'll get there.

everytime i got stopped in flatbush in ny after midnight was because i was white, i guess all the cops were racist? When they ask me whats a white person doing here other than scoring drugs i guess those white cops are racist against me? im not so quick to call people a racist. The guy here wasnt a cop but im just not quick to jump to "racism" as the cause, especially since he called cops over 40 times in last few weeks, if all those people he called on were a certain"race" then yes we got something, if not, maybe racism is not the issue and a pyschotic paranoid dude with a gun was the problem

If you wonder why people don't take you seriously, weeks from now what all this blows over to this thread in mind.

i dont wonder anything about people here lol, but if im wrong for not jumping to the conclusion someone is racist before knowing this is a fact, then what can i tell you, id rather gather info than lynch mob it.
I never said the guy wasnt wrong for what he did, and i hope justice is served. If he was a racist i hope it comes out and if he wasnt i hope that comes out as well.

heres latest articles i found oin the shooter

A woman accused the man who fatally shot Trayvon Martin of domestic violence, it emerged Wednesday, as a fuller picture of George Zimmerman began to take shape.

In 2005, a woman filed a petition for an injunction against Zimmerman, claiming that he came to her house and became violent when she told him to leave, the Orlando Sentinel reports. Zimmerman, 21 at the time, filed a petition of his own in response.

Just a month before that, the paper reports, Zimmerman was at a bar near the University of Central Florida when a friend was arrested on suspicion of serving minors. Zimmerman became profane and pushed a law enforcement agent who tried to escort him away. He was arrested after a short struggle. That arrest had been reported previously.

In both cases, injunctions have kept the cases' outcomes sealed.

Zimmerman, 28, was born in Virginia, aspired to be a law enforcement officer, and moved with his family to Florida about a decade ago. Though he appears not to have been an official member of the national Neighborhood Watch program, he was zealous -- perhaps over-zealous -- about patrolling his Sanford community, neighbors say.

"He once caught a thief and an arrest was made," Cynthia Wibker, secretary of the homeowners association in the gated community where Zimmerman lives, told the Miami Herald. "He helped solve a lot of crimes."

In 2007, Zimmerman married Shellie Nicole Dean, a licensed cosmetologist. The following year, he was pursued by a credit-card company for unpaid debts, court records show.

The city manager of Sanford, Fla., says George Zimmerman wasn't arrested despite his confession that he fatally shot Trayvon Martin because police were legally barred from doing so.

"Zimmerman provided a statement claiming he acted in self defense, which at the time was supported by physical evidence and testimony," Sanford City Manager Norton Bonaparte Jr. wrote in a letter released publicly Wednesday evening. "By Florida Statute, law enforcement was PROHIBITED from making an arrest based on the facts and circumstances they had at the time."

The Sanford Police Department has received widespread criticism for its handling of the investigation. Among other issues, it didn't conduct a drug or alcohol test on Zimmerman, although that's standard practice in homicide probes, and a witness has said a police officer "corrected" her claim that she heard Martin yelling for help.

The letter goes on to address several other issues related to the case. Bonaparte writes that Zimmerman's failure to obey a 911 dispatcher's request that he not follow Martin can be taken into account in the ongoing investigation, but adds that the request "is not a lawful order that Mr. Zimmerman would be required to follow."

Bonaparte appears to be saying that disobeying the order wasn't in itself a violation of law.

Bonaparte also addresses a claim made by Martin's father, Tracey Martin: that a law enforcement official told Tracey Martin that Zimmerman wasn't initially arrested because he had a squeaky clean image (in fact, Zimmerman had been charged in connection with assaulting a cop, though the charge was dropped).

Bonaparte writes that the official was merely telling the elder Martin how Zimmerman had portrayed himself. "We believe Mr. Martin may have misconstrued this information," he adds.

I dunno. I only know what happened, and I don't particularly care about the racial element at all. It's the least interesting and important part of the case. The guy didn't have to be a KKK member or a Nazi to stereotype someone as being suspicious. So, ya'll can go on about the racial elements --and complain about Sharpton and Jackson- and how profiling is necessary, etc. And, I do believe that if the young guy had been armed and shot the neighborhood watch guy, that he'd be in jail. Hey, I dunno. I just believe. I know others disagree.

Oh, and I guess the guy might have mental problems; and, if he gets off for "mental illness," it wouldn't be a big surprise.
Afa FOX coverage, well, the rallys are getting too big to ignore. (Hence, the excuse making will begin. First, it will be "reasonable doubt," then I'm sure there'll be a search for the young guy's drug record, or his mother's, father's, friends', neighbors' etc.

I mean that I disagree with carrying a weapon to kill unless I intend to do just that. I won't carry "for protection" or "for preparation" or "just in case," but that's just me. Of course, if this same situation had happened to me, I would have been out of luck. However, that reality does not convince me that I should carry, even if I could.

I think there's a big difference between being pulled over and asked questions by a trained police officer and being chased down and gun down by a random man in the street who then claims it was in self-defense.

Unfortunately, it seems that there are nearly 100 cases like this in Florida where people have been gunned down in similar situations. Under the "stand your ground" law you can use your gun whenever you feel like your life is in danger. So it seems that Zimmerman's attorneys just have to prove that Zimmerman believed he was in danger and he'll go free. Yet if that does happen the feds will probably bring him up on civil right charges.

Racist or not, we have so many assholes and idiots on this society perhaps this guy is just one of those. :) Either way he should be locked up so our streets are safer. I don't see calling 9-11 a hundred times as anything heroic. In fact if anything he was probably tying up the line from real emergency calls getting through.

Saying that I still believe that if this kid looked like a mormon he'd still be alive.

"The portrayal of George Zimmerman in the media, as well as the series of events that led to the tragic shooting are false and extremely misleading. Unfortunately, some individuals and organizations have used this tragedy to further their own causes and agendas."

http://www.orlandosentinel.com/news/loc ... 6605.story

"The tragic events of February 26 are very sad for all concerned. The Martin family, our family, and the entire community have been forever changed.

The portrayal of George Zimmerman in the media, as well as the series of events that led to the tragic shooting are false and extremely misleading. Unfortunately, some individuals and organizations have used this tragedy to further their own causes and agendas.

George is a Spanish speaking minority with many black family members and friends. He would be the last to discriminate for any reason whatsoever. One black neighbor recently interviewed said she knew everything in the media was untrue and that she would trust George with her life. Another black neighbor said that George was the only one, black or white, who came and welcomed her to the community, offering any assistance he could provide. Recently, I met two black children George invited to a social event. I asked where they met George. They responded that he was their mentor. They said George visited them routinely, took them places, helped them, and taught them things and that they really loved George. The media portrayal of George as a racist could not be further from the truth.

The events of February 26 reported in the media are also totally inaccurate. Out of respect for the on-going investigation, I will not discuss specifics. However, the media reports of the events are imaginary at best. At no time did George follow or confront Mr. Martin. When the true details of the event become public, and I hope that will be soon, everyone should be outraged by the treatment of George Zimmerman in the media.

Our entire family is deeply sorry for the loss of Trayvon. We pray for the Martin family daily. We also pray that the community will grieve together and not be divided by more unwarranted hate.

The Zimmerman family will have no further contact with the media prior to the resolution of the investigation. It would be greatly appreciated if the media would respect our privacy.”

Yeah, but he's still an asshole.

If someone can't handle someone 100 pounds lighter and smaller than them without needing to use a gun then they're just a waste of space.

Thanks for the article though, I was curious what the other side would come up with. As we already covered he might not be a racist but he is an idiot. Also there are up 92 cases like this in Florida where people have been shot in self-defense and there is reason to believe it is homicide.

I deal with situations like Zimmerman's case as a parks monitor, with teens vandalizing the parks. When things get heated I leave it alone and call the police, sometimes they show up but a lot of times they don't. Should I start carrying a gun and shooting people instead?

I appreciate the feelings of his family, and I think it would be the same for most people. After a crime, we always hear, "But, he's really a good boy." That's not the issue, though 'some people will use it to promote their agendas.' The issue is whether he was right or wrong. He didn't have to be a career criminal, although in this case the only person involved with a criminal record (of assault against police officers) is Mr. Zimmerman. On the tape, he tells the police that "These assholes always get away." Now, I don't know what he meant. It shouldn't have meant someone who was walking, talking on his phone and carrying Skittles. If that is sufficient to warrant "suspicion," then he should at least explain why.

Although, I can't recall how many threads there've been on the intrusions of gov't into our lives. But, I bet that the most excuses for Zimmerman's actions will come from the same people.

George is a Spanish speaking minority with many black family members and friends. He would be the last to discriminate for any reason whatsoever.

IMO that means absolutely nothing. First of all it makes it sound like 'whites against the world', meaning if you have any natural pigmentation whatsoever, you guys are all going to get along just fine. From an objective viewpoint, there's nothing that would stop him from disliking people that are not simply latino. I'm not reflecting on what his motives were, just that you can't say "he's a minority and therefore tolerant of other ethnicities".

that being said, my heart goes out to the boy's family.

Republicans join call for Trayvon Martin inquiry
By Michael O'Brien, msnbc.com

Republicans joined the call for an investigation into the shooting death of Trayvon Martin on Friday, adding rare, bipartisan support in the racially-charged case.

The main Republican presidential contenders each decried the shooting of Martin, a 17-year-old African-American, allegedly by a neighborhood watch member, and joined with President Obama and other Democrats in supporting a Department of Justice investigation into the incident.

"What happened to Trayvon Martin is a tragedy. There needs to be a thorough investigation that reassures the public that justice is carried out with impartiality and integrity," Republican presidential frontrunner Mitt Romney said in a statement.

Rick Santorum, Romney's main rival for the GOP nomination, added: "It's a horrible case, and it's chilling to hear what happened ... I think it's pretty clear the problems we're seeing in this case, and hopefully the state Attorney General and local community is reacting and responding, and hopefully this matter will be an example of what law enforcement has to do in a case like this."

Seems like common sense to me.

Re: Shooting in Florida

Postby beegs on Fri Mar 23, 2012 2:49 pm

not sure whats true here, but certainly raises some more questions about the vent if true

Last weekend in the city of Chicago alone, gangbangers slaughtered ten people and wounded another forty. The youngest fatality is only six years old. The youngest person wounded is only one-year-old. Many of the victim were pedestrians sprayed with bullets in drive by shootings. The national news has said nothing about this.

So why does one shooting in Florida warrant weeks of national news? Why has there been thousands of articles a day, for the last four days, about one single shooting?

Almost all of the news items about George Zimmerman and Trayvon Martin contains a combination of false statements, opinions presented as facts, transparent distortions, and a complete absence of some of the most relevant details. Almost all news items are written soley from the point of view of the grieving family. The media also fills their articles with outdated baby-faced pictures of Trayvon. Very few include that he was a towering 6'2” football player. Is the media really reporting the news, or is this classic agitation/propaganda to advance a political agenda.

Literally thousands of articles contain at least one false statement in the first couple of lines. They usually read "George ZImmerman, a white man," or "shoot by a white man." Zimmerman is described by family as a multiracial Hispanic. His appearance is clearly that of a Latino/Mestizo individual. However, the media wants him to be white because that better fits the political narrative they are trying to artificially create. Many news articles have also claimed the neighborhood is "mostly white." This is also a lie. The neighborhood is only 49% white. It is over half non-white.

All the way back on February 27th, the local Orlando Fox station interviewed the witness who dialed 911. Almost none of the thousands of articles since have mentioned any of the details described by the witness. Some, however, have attributed false statements to this witness. On March 16th, the Sanford police department released new details to the Orlando Sentinel. Once again, these details have been ignored or changed by the media.

The witness reports that George Zimmerman was on the ground and Trayvon is on top of him punching him.
The witness says that George Zimmerman was screaming and yelling for help.
Police arrive and find Zimmerman bleeding on his face and the back of his head. He also has had grass stains on his back. All this confirms the story told by Zimmerman and the witness.
Police play the 911 tape for Trayvon Martin's father, who tells police that the voice screaming is not the voice of his son.
The neighborhood this took place in has seen a lot of crime. Would you be surprised to learn that there were eight burglaries, nine thefts, and a shooting just in the past year? In fact, the local homeowners' association reports that George Zimmerman actually caught one thief and aided in the apprehension of other criminals. The Miami Herald wrote about this on March 17th. None of the thousands of articles and cable news segments that came after, thought this was important.

In fact the Miami Herald goes on to interview neighbor, Ibrahim Rashada, who is black. Rashada confirms that there has been a lot of crime in the neighborhood and indicates to the reporter that the perpetrators are usually black.

The media also characterizes Trayvon as a "model student." In fact, he under a five day suspension when the shooting took place. That is why he was staying at a house so far from his school on a school night. A laywer for Trayvon's family has blocked access to his school records. However, you have to do something pretty bad to get suspended for five days.

Now that you know the suppressed facts of the case, you can for form a better more balanced opinion. Maybe you still think Zimmerman was wrong to pull the trigger. However, I think you will come to the conclusion that the "mainstream" clearly is pushing an agenda. Even when they have to grossly alter and adjust a story to fit that agenda.

All cops are not racist but the nature of their work does force them to work off of profiles, now Beegs you stay out of Flatbush at night ;D Everyone keeps using the national murder rate, Chicago in particular, to ask why there is no national outrage. These are crimes with the police out looking for the perpetrators of those crimes and will make immediate arrests. In Florida a man was told to cease and desist and he did not, instead he continued to exacerbate what was not even a tense situation to start, and then killed a young man, and there is no claim of a crime being committed. He nullified the stand your ground law by following the child.
