So, to add some fun (but hopefully serious) fantasizing to "The Flowah".... What If.... you're young, athletic, good-looking, single, no kids, no debt, no responsibilities, and you suddenly have $5,000 to do with as you will. No ties holding you in place, no one you need to give the money to, no one to take care of but yourself.... what do you do from there? You can go anywhere, learn or do anything that $5,000 wil pay for. What do ya do?

Get an RV and go to Texas to whoop up on Pat and Mr. Wang, just like I was going to do four months ago when I DID have $5K in pocket and no responsibilities and decided it would be better to hang out in Brevard County, FLA.

5 grand will go along way there.

You could live the good life for a grand a month anywhere, but if you're wise with your money and eat at the Muslim noodle joints you could easily carry on for a year and do some hardcore training.

definitely. I want to learn to fly, and gliders are apparently a great place to start.

Here's my plan if I ever get the chance:
Take a class/read up on identifying & how to cook edible flora & fauna like Hugh Fearnley-Whittingstall's tv series or suchlike.
Some summertime, go hitching around Europe with a friend, tent and guitar living as cheap as poss. but eating well.
Research a bunch of the old Roman roads and hike along them. See who comes along.

In Beijing or Shanghai it's easy to spend your money quickly.

You can basically have an all you can eat and drink dinner at a Benny Hanna's style restaurant for $12. Which is great, but these add up.

If you go some place like the outskirts of X'ian or Hangzhou your money will go further, yet even these places are nice. If you choose a hole in the ground in the middle of China somewhere then you can live for basically nothing.

I'd PM Tadzio and Omar to find out how much they can get by on where they live. Because I imagine that even $500 in those places would still be enough for a good lifestyle. Of course it's not always easy living in the middle of nowhere but if you find a good teacher you'll be busy anyway.
