Batons

I picked up a nice baton. It's about 12 inches and extends to 31 inches. It's 3 pieces which extends out, nice solid weapon, you can even thrust with it.

The problem is I can't figure out exactly how to collapse it, sometimes I get it and sometimes I don't.

Any secrets?

Stab the end of the baton (assuming it's a flick out) into an unyeilding surface. Failing that, make sure that the pressure you exert on the tip moves straight into the handle. Those are hella fun, try not to break too much stuff.

As a dork shout out, I really like the tanto/baton fight in KIllzone/SPL

I had the same problem with a collapsible jian, and my short baton. A little dw-40 or other lubricant meant for metal works, especially after the first 5 or so hard thrusts shooting it out. Just keep it well lubricated and it should be ok.

I carry it when I walk the dog.

My neighborhood is full of big dogs and they've already attacked my little Jack Russell mix once so now I carry a baton. It's non-threatening and some dogs come at us I have something to keep them away, also I could use the tip to jam it down the other dog's throat if it bites down on my dog.

These are great weapons for CMA stylists, I might get a smaller one too.

those batons are great. I always found the 'only' way I could get them to retract though, was by tapping it against the pavement

Anyone know which size would make the baton like one of those small metal flashlights?

It seems like that would be the right size for keeping in your jacket.

Perhaps a 21 incher...don't get too excited Ian. ;)

Be careful of the man,

some areas of the nation have laws against carrying let alone using collapsible batons.

You could always get a Cold Steel African walking stick or the walkabout.

Yeah, California is one of those States.

In some ways you might as well pull out a gun over here because whether it's a gun or a weapon I believe the law treats you the same way.

That's another great idea.

A proper walking stick is good for self defense and also invaluable during role-play.
