In a land where people can be converted to cash and corporations can be considered people, anything is possible --because anything can be rationalized in terms of profit.

I really cant find the word for it,
as I recall waiter job was payed very lo /$3,5 in 90` in NYC/ , so tips are real core of their wages,
however kitchen staff has to live without it, what makes their life really hard .

The American way! Capitalism: we have been imposing it on the rest of the world once we took the reigns form the British Empire and now we are finally really getting a taste of it here. Reap what you sow, oh ye patriots of the Land of the Brave and home of the Free.

Tips should be done away with in the first place.

Hooters is probably gonna have some new applicants from the grid girls pool who've been freed from the oppressive patriarchy of gainful employment.

I've never liked the concept of tips, but to force waiters to accept below minimum wage due to their chance of getting tips, then taking the tips away, is utter bullshit. This is blatantly robbing the poor to give to the rich.

For a long time they've also made the wait staff (servers) contibute all tips they receive to a tip pool, which is partially distributed back out to other restaurant workers who *are* receiving miniumum wage, such as bus boys and drink stockers, but whose jobs require none of the soft skills related to earning tips that come from rewards for good service.

I'm sure Elon, that champion of customer service from paypal days, will solve all this by replacing silly human servers with tesla-bots. It'll happen the day after my smart phone is cleaned of Russian twitter bots.

There are restaurants that don't allow tipping, but they're all in places where the minimum wage is reasonable. Where the rate is two bucks and hour, imagine how many hours it takes to buy a house. Then again, trailers are not that expensive.
