Trump is a rich guy who has done a lot of business with other rich guys.

The Saudis have a few rich guys. FYI, they are actually considered a middle income country. Their wealth is just concentrated in a tiny number of hands.

Trump did business with them. So what?

Khashoggi was a non-US citizen who died at the hands of his own sketchy government in Turkey.

Considering he was a complete scumbag, why should anyone care that he died?

He had no relationship to the US and provided nothing of consequence to the US.

Why should the US president care?

The Saudis do sketchy stuff all the time. When any number of middle eastern states kill some random jihadi, or their supports like Khashoggi, no one cares. So, their killing people isn't exactly uncommon. This didn't happen in the US, or on US property, and did not involve a US citizen.

Your personal deraingement with regard to Trump seems to make you want to blame him in some manner for what happened. Why? I get you don't like the man. But really, this is a strech. The US has absolutely no skin in this game. Why would the US comment on it at all?

The mere fact that a "double" was used to throw off suspicion tells us of an engineered plot to silence Khassoggi.
All that is needed now are some fall guys to uplift MBS (the new regent! imagine in this day and age) and make him seem above the fray.

Well, why should we be interested? That's different than "what should we do?" However, the question should be "Why was the Saudi government interested in silencing Khashoggi?" He wasn't a leader. He was a journalist.

The argument that "he was an Islamist" is irrelevant. There are many Islamists who oppose the Saudis; there are many non-Islamists who oppose them, too. Being one is not a reason for his specific assassination. If he were planning an attack, or had carried out one, or was an Osama bin Laden, then it would make political (if dirty) sense. My point is that Khashoggi must have had something to say that was particularly damaging. That is what would be interesting to find out.

As I wrote, it's the Turks who brought this to light. They have interests (and, of course, nations only have "interests"). It's in our interest to know as much as we can, so that we identify the correct enemy. Suppose Khashoggi was working on something that was relevant to US national security. It's no different than if a Saudi journalist was preparing to warn the US of an attack. Even if he were an Islamist, it's be good to know. No?

Khashoggi was a bad guy who had a bad end.

The fact that he was an Islamist means by definition he was a bad guy. This was an individual who was attempting to use a democratic process to establish a pan-Arab theocracy.

He wasn't a journalist. He was a propagandist using the Western media to spread his message. His experience in journalism consisted of working for various Arab state owned media until they got tired of him and fired him. He was also the point man for conservative clerics within Saudi Arabia that bin Salman had been jailing in an attempt to modernize the country.

The only reason the Turks are complaining is that Erdogan is trying to accomplish in Turkey what Khashoggi wanted in the Arab world. Erdogan is quoted as having said, "Democracy is like a tram ride: when you reach your stop, you get off." (Mayor of Istanbul in 1996, Date: July 14th. 1996, Reporter: Nilgun Cerrahoglu, Newspaper: Milliyet)

That was Khashoggi's goal as well.

He was a bad guy doing bad things. Finally, someone got tired of him and got rid of him. End of story.

Was that democratic process the press or free speech? But, hey, I feel the same way about neo-nazis, fascists, and their supporters.

I never heard the name Khashoggi before this. Labeling him as anything, no matter how many times it's repeated, does not move me, and certainly doesn't persuade me. Saudi Arabia is the exact opposite of a democracy. It is completely totalitarian, and fundamentally Islamic.

Afa a pan-Arab theocracy, the Saudi kingdom's and the US's greatest threat is Iran, which is not Arab. Pakistan is not Arab, etc. If Khashoggi wanted Muslim world domination, ok, no better than fascists or nazis. The Saudis can do with them as they will.

The Saudi ethos of assassination has been destroyed by modernism, oil revenue and plain old feudalistic elements of greed and royal positioning.
Stuff went bad and this was the result.

I rememeber the history of the Assassins (usually drug crazed and manipuated by "handlers) 'when Arabs rules but as various groups supplanted Arab hegemony, various non Arab groups began exploits associated with the work of 'Assassins'.

As it say on the Wiki; Assassin-Hashishin-users of hashish.......When I wrote before about Shriners it wasn’t in a jestingly way. There’s a therory that Knight Templars collaborated with the Assassins, and adopted some of their religious rituals and beliefs. Later on when the Templars where wiped out by the Church of Rome, fractions of the templars did survive and later went on in the form of the Freemasons...There are fractions in the Islamic world that fight for dominance, so the same fractions are found in the western(Christian)world supporting the different sides of Islam. They’re all probably weed headed thugs behind their polished facades. Thugs which by the way derive from “Thuggee” and you can read up on what nice guys they where...........Hehe, yes this little rant is my tinfoil hat crazy conspiracy theory, but not weirder than blaming all current disasters on the one MrTrump..........And No I have not been smoking something 8-)

Thought some here might be able to shed some light on a myth.

"Myth : The word assassin is derived from the word hashish.

It is a common myth that the word assassin comes from the Arabic word haschishin for hashish user.

The story is that al-Hassan ibn-al-Sabbah used hashish to enlist the aid of young men into his private army known as assassins (aschishin - or follower of Hassan). One of the primary sources for this information comes from the writings of Marco Polo who visited the area in 1273, almost 150 years after the reign of Al-Hassan."

Well, the word "assassin" in English is derived from what Europeans --long before Polo-- thought the Arabic meant. However, the Arabic word had it's own origins. The leader who formed the sect called "Assassins" during (or before) the Crusades called his followers "Asāsīyūn," but that meant "people who are faithful." The assassins (killers/special forces) of his group weren't called assassins.

So, we get the English word for assassin from a misinterpretation of Arab speakers and later European travelers. However, in Arabic, an assassin is still a killer or murderer.

Here's some of the entry. https://www.etymonline.com/word/assassi ... searchhint

assassin (n.)
1530s (in Anglo-Latin from mid-13c.), via French and Italian, from Arabic hashishiyyin "hashish-users," plural of hashishiyy, from the source of hashish (q.v.).

The "myth" is that they used hashish because nobody really knows for sure. If they did use, they probably weren't the only ones.

Otoh, the Romans had their sicarii (assassins) and our modern day drug lords call their hitmen/boys "sicarios." I'd bet a lot of them use drugs.

Interesting.

Two recent films entitled "Sicario" have been pretty well received. They starred Josh Brolin and Benicio del Toro.

LOL! The Saudis do sketchy stuff all the time...

Exactly and they fund IS and Al Qaeda and 9-11.

Did you forget? I thought you and your men were fighting those guys.

Trump derangement syndrome? When you open your eyes and realize your oath was to the Constitution and not a fake reality TV businessman whose fortune all came from his dad and is now trying to use the presidency to make more money you will wake up too.

You do realize he doesn't get daily security briefings, don't you? That's right! us, the military, are risking our lives while the president is getting his intel from FOX.

If that doesn't piss you off then you were never in the military.

More importantly this false narrative that Khashoggi was a terrorist and deserved to die was completely fabricated. The Saudis have never stated that. Supposedly it was a fist fight with him versus 15 guys, remember?

More importantly, when (if ever) have the Saudis gone after terrorists? The Saudis always funded terrorism and after 9-11 they stepped up their funding when the US targeted Wahhabi schools around the world.
