Inside China's war on Islam

"They are reluctant to talk because the building is not a formal prison or university, but an internment camp where Muslim minorities, mainly Uighurs, are sent against their will and without trial for months or even years.

Researchers and residents say southern Xinjiang, where the Luopu County No 1 Vocational Skills Training Centre is located, has borne the brunt of the government’s crackdown on Muslims because of its density of Uighurs and distance from major cities.

“We have a saying in Hotan: If you go into a concentration camp in Luopu, you never come out,” said Adil Awut*, from Hotan City, who is now living overseas.

This month, the United Nations asked for direct access to the camps after a panel said it had received “credible reports” that 1.1 million Uighurs, Kazakhs, Hui and other ethnic minorities had been detained."

Well, it's really a war against Muslim peoples. Wars against religion rarely succeed. It didn't work with Christianity. And, in fact, this story would be much bigger news if Christians were being treated this way. Or, imagine if it were Jews. There'd be more concern, but it wouldn't make any difference. The PRC has done it before.

it looks like in some parts of the world, white people persecute brown (and other) people, and in this part of the world, brown people persecute white (and other) people.

White people persecute white people more than they do any others. The Chinese are persecuting Chinese who have been there for 1000 years. But, hey, white people in Germany persecuted other Germans --who just happened to be Jewish, but were just as German and "white" as they.

China has survived as long as it has as it learned a key lesson in the past: every society must have one dominant culture. Multiculturalism is a lie propagated by pan-national socialism used to destroy societies. You can have multiethnic, but you just can't have multicultural. All multiculturalism breeds is instability and violence, which, incidentally, is a feature of the philosophy and not a defect.

Previously, the Chinese government lacked the resources to forcibly integrate the disparate parts of its governed peoples. It is now going for the end game.

Considering the various long term insurgencies that have come out of China's Western states this is not unsurprising. The Uighurs, and other ethic minorities, will join the long line of groups forcibly assimilated by the Han people or they will be destroyed. It's just that simple.

Yep, Christians should leave China, be assimilated into Chinese culture, or be destroyed. It's just that simple.

Maybe things are partially true here, but I don't like how these so called facts are presented whether there is a lot of truth here or not. The thing is that there is absolutely no war against Islam in China or a war against any specific minority group. The situation here is about one geographical region. There are Muslim minorities all over China, they go in schools were they can study their own culture and study the Quran is mandatory. I have friends in China who are Muslims they are doing very good. And I have met Uighurs there and even Uighurs from Xinjiang who study here. They have constant communication with their homes, travel back and forth without any problems. Many things I've heard lately about Xinjiang just doesn't makes sense from my own experiences with China and with Chinese Muslims. There has been going on something more or less like a war in Xinjiang for a long time, but this is restricted to certain areas and to my knowledge it's not really a war against whole minority groups.

I don't think you should believe everything that is said about Xinjiang, not from Western media, and not what is said from China. Maybe somewhere in between lies the truth. There has been many things in media recently about Xinjiang. Remember that there is an economic war going on. We know from reliable sources that the US has sponsored anti-Chinese propaganda before and quite recently. Why so much anti-Chinese news appears right now has political reasons. But we also know that nationalism is getting stronger in China and that there are certainly more restrictions now than before concerning rules for mass gatherings and similar. Exactly how much of what media says is true is extremely hard to find out. But there are certainly things in descriptions lately that should be studied more thoroughly before judging.

I think you're absolutely right about the partial truths, and it depends on who reports them.

slight tangent. over here in the usa, recently there have been a ton of videos (raw footage can be seen) of some white lady (sometimes a man) calling the police emergency line (911 here) because some black person is going about his or her business: entering his own storefront to open it, attending her own pool, following asleep in her own dorm, and so on. and of course the not-my-president is having a war on "immigrants" while helping his immigrant wife chain-immigrate her parents.

Yeah because if I personally don’t know any Muslims who were put in concentration camps in China then it can’t be happening, right?

When it comes to anti-Chinese propaganda it’s often more a questions about proportions, how and the extent of something. What the newspaper claim is that there is a war against Islam and Islamic minorities which is absolutely not true. But I would not be surprised if there was some kind of prison like camp in Xinjiang. If you do a search about this you’ll find that there are many different ideas and opinions it looks like and how many there are in there. So I wouldn’t bet on that all of what a newspaper says is true.

You can see that picture above of the thing that might or might not be true, right? I mean, let me know because I haven’t drunk my kookaid today and I might be hallucinating.

No one said that there’s no fenced building there. I haven’t been there so I don’t if it’s a kind of prison, camp or re-schooling education center. If there was a war against all Uighurs as the Guardian claims, how come a mass of Uighurs are allowed to sit and demonstrate outside? It doesn’t make sense. Why not just bomb them as some Uighurs here in the West claim they do? So I wouldn’t trust everything The Guardian says.

OMG you really are hilarious sometimes Bao.

They’re not outside the fence - they’re inside the fence!

They’re being reeducated.

That is the funniest post I’ve read in years ;D

Oh, they were inside? Thought it was strange with allowing people to sit outside... I’ll just blame my lack of sleep for the last nights for not reading correctly then... I’ll try get back to the article when I’ve had some rest...
