Happy new year, chums.

This just in from Colorado, a jogger was jumped by an immature mountain lion and killed it without using a weapon. Details pending. I will find it interesting to learn just what he did. Also it will be interesting to find out if the jogger had any martial arts background. He is hospitalized with "serious but not life-threatening" injuries.

The article I saw about it said this:

After further investigation, including an examination of the cougar, wildlife officials determined that the man was able to suffocate the animal while defending himself from the attack.

The answer is going to be the inevitable..."it was BJJ" :) Hoyce chocked him out... ;D

Sadly, the lion was too young and hadn't got to such advanced knowledge..

So I still wonder - did he use rear naked choke?
He must be a really strong guy or mountain lions are easy to choke.
I grew up working on dairy farms and have some hand strength.
I have tried to choke a Rotti and a Dobie and can't do it. I wouldn't
even try with a Pit.
Maybe the mountain lion was almost dead already from starvation
and attacked him as a last resort to survive.

The article said that he suffocated the lion, so he might not have choked it at all. He might have managed to cover its nose and mouth. I don't think that is any easier. It might be more difficult to get into position.

And, the lion could have been weakened because it lost its mother and was not about to hunt well for itself. There's still no doubt that the man's feat is one for the books.

I would imagine that he did a front "rape choke" (sorry that is the BJJ term) since the mountain loin was biting him.

what happen when you work against natural reaction, and put the hand/arm deep inside of m.l. jaws?
Isn`t it better way to chocking him out than rear naked choke?
Cats are to flexible for such tech.

I'm guessing he was wearing a Gi and went for an Ezekiel from inside full guard. Those are sneaky - no way the cat saw that coming.
