No Rum thread? Rum Thread!

So - what are y'all drinking nowadays?

I found Ron Zacapa in the late 90s and fell head over heels for it after it came out on top in a blind tasting.

Sadly they got a bit too popular and their old fully wrapped bottle is yet to be matched by anything they've done since, but it's still a darn good sipping rum.

Last year I had Zaya 30 and it is now my (very expensive) favorite.

Not rum, but we posted some of our drinks here https://rumsoakedfist.org/viewtopic.php ... aa96a431c1

I've been drinking more Shiner Bock lately (beer from Shiner, Texas).

Not sure if I've had rum since high school.

Ron Zacapa and Zaya were both pretty standard when I used to work cigars. I wasn't much of one for really old rums as I preferred whiskeys but that's another story. I like the 12 year Zaya - tastes like vanilla extract smells. Cruzan Single Barrel isn't bad but I don't recommend their regular selection. My old roommate has some bottles of Habana Club Anejo in the basement for a special occasion.

Bacardi is too sweet!
Mount Gay Rum from Barbados is just right. The other is Fernandes Rum Vat 19 from Trinidad

Never understood rum, but I will try that gay stuff. The name seems adequate for a Tai Chi practitioner... :P

Zaya was my 'cheap backup' recommendation back in the day, but they've reformulated and are really bad now. Can't recommend them any more.

Cruzan is a solid player, I really like their Black Strap for mixing - it has enough 'oomph' to cut through whatever you're mixing with it

My old roommate has some bottles of Habana Club Anejo in the basement for a special occasion.

I picked up a bottle of 7 when I was in Shanghai (makes a great Cuba Libre with MexiCoke), but I prefer their Selección de Maestros offering.

Yeah I don't really drink any more, too hard on my body after Seroquel ruined my metabolism. Have been wanting a good Old Fashioned of late though.
