When I looked up what the FBI said what I see is the FBI cautioning a rush to judgement.

Hate crimes rose by 226 percent in counties where Trump hosted campaign rallies in 2016: study

https://thehill.com/blogs/blog-briefing ... -trump?amp

The Washington Post used ADL data to come up with this figure of 226% increase. So it's not 300% and it's not convictions for hate crimes. These are incidents of what the ADL categorizes as hate, extremism, anti-semitism, and terrorism. There are multiple layers of statistical analysis based on often ambiguous and updated definitions and categories that have been changed and expanded from just racial bias to many more, such as gender, and these conclusions come from a group that can not be considered as neutral as the FBI, so I would take this conclusion about increased "hate crimes" after Trump rallies with a grain of salt.

I would consider the ADL's claims less valid than the FBI's Hate Crime Statistic reports, which have also been used to blame the Trump admin by pundits and many media outlets, as well as the San Francisco D.A., but when you look at the information collected by the FBI closely, it reveals that "hate crimes" are often ambiguous and abitrary. For example, the most recent report is from 2017 and it shows a great discrepancy in how hate crimes are classified and collected. Different states with similar populations have vastly different amounts of hate crimes, such as South Carolina and Alabama. Some major cities, such as Miami and Las Vegas report none at all. There are huge numebers of American citizens not covered by any police department that reports hate crimes, and yet thousands of police departments began reporting in 2017, resulting in only a 17% increase. There are lots of discrepancies like this.

The reason I brought up the Smollett case earlier is that it illustrates a repeating pattern of frequent hate hoaxes, and even when a claim is as implausible as Smollett's, the media quickly amplify it in spite of its unlikeliness and the immediate reservations of the police investigators to believe it. A motive for the media is that moral outrage draws attention in the form of clicks, and these hate hoaxes become online rage bait from which media can benefit monetarily.

Obviously there are real "bias incidents" or "hate crimes" according to consistent definitions, but here is a collection of recent hate hoaxes from Andy Ngo about six months ago.

https://threadreaderapp.com/thread/1097 ... 34976.html

Exscessively blaming Trump for increases in hate crimes looks like rage bait from the media and hysteria from some individuals. For example, the original subject of this thread was calling someone a right wing nutjob for a fist fight near a Trump rally, but the facts were not in. Movtive was assumed based on video that did not show the lead up to the fighting, so an incorrect conclusion was most likely part of confirmation bias now called into questions because the man arrested says in court he was not attending the Trump rally and was just driving by.

Okay. Don't blame Trump for any specific case. Seriously. What is to blame?

Not easy to answer the root cause, but the MSM is throwing oil on the fire, so I think they're partly to blame even if they're not the ones who started it.

No good deed goes unpunished. ;)

San Jose saw a 300 percent increase in hate crimes between 2014 and 2017, up to 44 hate crimes last year from 11 in 2014.

No one said anything about a convinction rate. The fact is there are reports of a 300% rise in hate crimes.

With all the time you spend online I am sure you could found this yourself so I won't bother telling you the source but it is from a more "conservative" source. Again this is all common knowledge here so I doubt anyone feels a need to debate what is well known old news here.

Oil on what or whose fire? What did the MSM say to make someone gun down children in a mall? What should the MSM do now? Should it not report these incidents? Should they publish the manifestoes these guys leave as I recall you suggested? Blaming Trump 24/7 does not legitimize or justify murder, not even if he did it.

Could the root problem be the reason these guys do these murders? I mean, the El Paso shooter wrote that there are too many Mexicans in the US. The mayor of that border town had no problem with them. But the shooter (from Dallas, it seems) felt it was his duty to solve the problem by killing as many of them as he could. Isn't it ironic that the people of El Paso stood in line to donate blood for the victims. (According to reports, at least two of the (20) killed were Mexican nationals). Sure, the MSM could focus on the significance of that communal act, but that won't change the rhetoric that guys like the shooter believe much.

Afa doomestic terrorism, that seems like a euphemism. I think the Oklahoma City bombing (or the day care center) was a better example.

I can't think of a reason that Antifa would do anything like this. I could see them trying to attack this guy. Actually, I was watching the mayor speak and he made it clear that he didn't want Antifa coming down to EP. I was surprised that the name even came up until I realized that they (someone allegedly representing AF) had offered to assist in some way.

and antifa,,,how about them

Hard to find these folks especially if loners.

FBI not as resources since 9/11.

Possibly shifting more focus to white nationalists.

What about leftist mass murderers? Yeah, Bernie and Warren are known for their violent rhetoric. Just wait, Antifa and BLM will be walking into churches, mosques, synagogues, shopping centers and malls with AK47s and start mowing people down.

If we want to play the what about game, turn about is fair play. Mike is right, arming oneself is a good idea. Watch out for those manifesto guys whenever you're in a public place. Put up their pictures so we know who they are. We do it with normal criminals. I don't see why we don't with scumbags like these.

The people who start shit have no right to say it doesn't matter or complain if the other guy returns the favor.

Funny. The nation and people were never more unified than after a single Muslim (nutjob) attack.

Oh well, the reason nothing will be done is because many people agree or identify with the ideas and ideology, but just say they disagree with the method. They say the same for Trump. I.e., they pardon him because his heart is in the right place.

On July 7, 2016, Micah Xavier Johnson ambushed and fired upon a group of police officers in Dallas, Texas, killing five officers and injuring nine others. Two civilians were also wounded. Johnson was an Army Reserve Afghan War veteran who was angry over police shootings of black men and stated that he wanted to kill white people, especially white police officers. The shooting happened at the end of a protest against the police killings of Alton Sterling in Baton Rouge, Louisiana, and Philando Castile in Falcon Heights, Minnesota, which had occurred in the preceding days.

During the investigation, the police found a note in Cho's room in which he criticized "rich kids", "debauchery" and "deceitful charlatans".[5] In the note, Cho continued by saying that "you caused me to do this."[5] Early media reports also speculated that he was obsessed with fellow student Emily Hilscher and became enraged after she rejected his romantic overtures.[91][92][93][94] Law enforcement investigators could not find evidence that Hilscher knew Cho.[95] Cho and one of his victims, Ross Alameddine, attended the same English class during autumn 2006.[96] Also in one video, he mentions "martyrs like Eric and Dylan", referring to Eric Harris and Dylan Klebold, the perpetrators of the Columbine High School massacre.[97]
