The point isn't too take away anyone's precious freedoms, it's too acknowledge the role violent and divisive rhetoric as is constantly being offered by a particular wing of the American body politic.
When the president implies he likes the idea of shooting immigrants, don't be surprised if his fellow travelers start shooting immigrants.
Also I could be much more inclusive and list the Dayton shooter, but then I'd have to include every right wing shooter with as tenuous a connection between their actions and ideology, and I don't think you'd like the way those numbers stack up.
Even if you include antifa the body count pales in comparison.
