would you do this or want to do this.....

Seems like it would bring a lot of pain back

The heart-wrenching scene is part of a South Korean documentary called Meeting You, which shows just how far VR technology can be taken — it's not just for video games anymore.

The clip from the documentary has been watched more than 13 million times on YouTube.

Lee Hyun-suk, director of VIVE Studios in Seoul and leader of the project, hopes that advances in technology can be used to comfort people.

a post from the clip

This is NOT a show or entertainment.
Her daughter passed away so suddenly in the space of one month because of rare blood cancer, the family wasn't ready for that. Especially in the mother's case, she had been driving herself to the limit ever since.

She cried a lot, blamed herself a lot, and talked to herself like crazy. She even got her daughter's name and birth date tattooed on her arm. That's why she volunteered for this project.

After having finished this project, she wrote in her blog that she now felt like having a dream that she had desperately wished for and it was so good.

I can imagine that it can indeed have a healing effect, as long as she is able, after a while, to move on from this, too. Speaking hypothetically, if she were to keep going back to this thing again and again, over months and years, then it would probably keep her locked in a mourning loop. Not good. But just once or a few times, maybe fine. According to the background text she is already in a lot of emotional pain anyway, so it's not so much about 'bringing pain back', maybe more about being able to go through the valley and coming out the other side.

Do not make the mistake of giving up the near in order to seek the far.

one step closer to the abyss.

That would be me? :D But there were subtitles for the whole thing, anyway...

Very sad - nothing I can say really.

Somethings don't quite translate.

what is called the "han" being one of them....

a kind of deep feeling
that runs through the culture

yep, deep sadness in the first clip
wonder if its helpful or not.

Not sure when the "han" word got popular - I've never heard my parents speak it, so I never really got used to it. I'll go and ask my Korean friends what they think.
