out of sheer boredom, jumping a little. I'm quite terrible at it (coordination and rhythm wise) and my cardio isn't the greatest.

anyway, it's too easy to find all the nice videos thanks to the youtube algorithms. lots of famous boxers and even kids making things look so darn easy. supposedly lenny kravitz (the most age defying celebrity of all time it seems) never leaves home without a jump rope (as one of his age defying "secrets").

i'm not messing with double unders, cross-overs, etc., etc. ... the one that caught my eye is "boxer shuffle" and the various ones boxers like to do. a little difficult for me to get right now. maybe in a few days i'll get it.

when was the last time you got into this? what did you think of it for boxing, MA, whatever? did your power, coordination, rhythm, stamina, etc. improve rapidly?

It is surprisingly low impact even for big guys like me.

When I'm travelling, and can't bring hand weights to do "heavyhands walking", I jump rope for cardio.

3 minutes of trying will burn more calories than three minutes of good skipping (because you will become more efficient and use less energy as your skill improves). So, just don't stop for three minutes and you'll do fine.

Here in China it’s an mandatory exercise in PE class at school. It’s more about rhythm and coordination than cardio

yeah my not great (but improving) rhythm and coordination with it seems to be causing it to be more cardio than it would be for kids.

I do skipping rope after 3-5 km run.
Using rope by Muaythai, it’s heavier, for 10-15 mins, if train in the gym will also jump on tire for another 10 mins.
Mainly for cardio but also baseline explosiveness.
Then ZZ, then meditating focus on my breathing.

I learnt my skipping rope from Ajarn Sagat, few pointers:
1, Elbow tuck near ribs 手不離肋
2,Small Head movements of head up and down 拳打落意隨足走
3,I can’t do it yet but each lift of foot with intentions of kneeing

I need to work up to maybe half of that!

Usually I play too much soccer to leave much room for more calf work, but with stay at home, I need other training.

I have used it in the past and was getting back into it before cycling season began. usually I try to do 1000 skips of alternating feet, 100 for warmup and then 3x300... good calf and shoulder exercise and good for coordination. Steve is right though once you are efficient it becomes a lot less effort...

It’s about two years ago Ajarn Sagat taught me kneeing when skipping.
I couldn’t do it. Because I thought it’s impossible to knee in each beats.
Recently I do 1122, and realize I can do knee at every second beat. Or even kick.
Then there is also arrow stance shuffle.
This is really fun to play with. Cheers!

I took a lot from this fella when I was learning the ropes so to speak, great for building footwork and structure in a routine

It is interesting the those designated as poor through media and other modes of communication always have an intuitive connection with nature and communal activities of the body that is expressed in movemnnt
